Shot while drinking water

Recommended Posts

I ran into a dude that was cool in Berizino, we looted up a little before running up to the ship wreck in the hopes of find him a backpack. We got one, ate some rice, and then tried to plan out the next move. Now I am knowledgeable about most of the town names and distances/time needed to get to them. But this guy was unsure of everything, talking about mil bases "close by" and the routes to get to them(we are at the ship wreck). He lost some gear while on the ship and we had to have it before we go. "We just need to go to the big town up North" he said. Now I had been playing for a few hours and about to check out. So this newbie is rubbing me the wrong way now, "the town up North" do you mean Novo or Svet? And Mil bases are 1/2 hour run or more from where we are. So....

I made the move while he drank some water, after eating MY rice, and going on about some dumb route he made to "the big town up North"

Bang, Bang, bullets in his eye ball.

Kinda Sorry, but then again no I'm not.

I am now an @sshole and I will kill my character to start over

I once felt like a dick aswell. I was in Svetlo and seen a guy fighting a zombie. Few moments later he came to me and waved, I waved back and shot him for his Mosin. I felt like crap and if I could contact him somehow I would gave all his stuff back and more for what I've did. Atleast I found out I don't wanna be that type of a player. If you happen to read this I'm sorry ;(

1) You can literally run across the entire map in half an hour, so, no, military bases are not "1/2 an hour or more" from Rify. Hell, there is an Admin building (also known as the "jail") in Turovo, literally 5 minutes from where you were.

2) Or, he could've meant Severograd.  Doesn't really matter, because Svetlo/Novo/Severograd are all about 3 minutes away from each other.

3) If you willingly shared it with him, it isn't "YOUR rice". Just saying. And there are three or 4 "kitchen buildings" on the run to Severograd where you could've found literally all the food you could ever want.

4) You are, in my opinion of course, a Grade A Prick. Teaching yet another new player "growing up" to learn that KOS-asshattery is the way to go. Even worse, "pretending" to be friendly.

You could have simply shot him in the leg and left him crawling or simply ran off and left him. Point blank target practice isn't much fun.

Party pooper, you can get to plenty of MP buildings in a few minutes from where you were. Whether that was up north or not, the kid was probably genuinely trying to make friends. I'll be expecting a post from you later saying "why does everyone act friendly then shoot you!?" soon.

You could have knocked him out instead! Or you can usually hide from people in very close proximity, then wait for them to go looking for you and slink off.

I agree, you should feel guilty and atone for your badness somehow.

How's this for an idea: set up a tomato stall at one of the kiosks in Svelto town square, supplied by a nearby greenhouse; you're not allowed to carry anything except tomatoes and related horticulture gubbins. And you have to wear all-red clothes and hat. And shout "GET YOUR LOVE-ER-LY RIPE TOMATOES HERE! THREE FOR A PAAAAAAND!" into direct chat.

Do it.

Sounds like you, as an experienced player, got upset at this newbie trying to give you orders when he clearly had no idea what he was doing.

Welcome to real life, mate. Most people have at least three jobs like that at some point in their lives. But anyway, amusing as that is, it's not really relevant.

It sounds like he was mostly playing his own game, still figuring things out. He was not at a point in his DayZ career where he understood the game well enough to actually interact with someone else without being an asshat. It's kind of like when your five-year-old cousin says you and him should play some kind of game, then he proceeds to make up all the rules and basically you end up being his manservant in a sense. Only in this case, neither you nor him were aware that he was a five-year-old till after you'd paired up.

It's not his fault. Clearly he's new, clearly there's a learning curve to this game with a learning curve similar to the curve you'd get on a world population graph over time. You were, in fact, a bit of a dick for shooting him. Should have just ditched him, made up an excuse if you felt bad. "My cat fell down the stairs and now it's on fire, I've gotta go, sorry, go on without me," is a great one, in my opinion. That being said, he was clearly not a wise man in that he failed to recognize that he was hampering your gaming enjoyment by being a n00b. Annoying, but also not his fault.

What you did wrong was allowing yourself to feel responsible for him in any way whatsoever. Once that happens, you're trapped by his side no matter how bad he is at the game, and you feel enough resentment that when you /do/ decide to leave, you shoot him so he can't follow you and demand your help. Nevermind that he didn't actually demand your help - you've fallen into one of the more common emotional traps of the modern era.

Next time, either ditch him as soon as you figure out he's bad at the game, or pull out your AK and make him dance for his life. I like the second one better. At least it leaves him with a funny story. =3

Why didn't you just part ways with the guy or KO him and leave? Usually when I team up with someone we end up parting ways after 30min to an hour anyway; nothing wrong with that.

Yes, people YES. The guilt is painful and The Tomato Dealer is a fine idea. But I've already killed my guy, a few times, and have decided not to carry a gun for at least four deaths from other players.

Am I wrong, in thinking that trust is something everyone needs to learn about in DayZ? I like to think I helped this poor dude out with that. I mean he had nothing but a .22 with a few rounds, so no big loss on his end, right?

However this was, for me, just another experience in the wonderful life of DayZ. Now moving on with making up for the asshattery.

Thank you guys for letting me vent!

I love how everyone is using the term ass-hat or asshattery here on the forums. Its gaining a footing here on the forums and the term will soon be a main stream term, used by everyone throughout the globe.  :o

The real def is of asshat: He who is dumb, blindly follows or makes mistakes and is douch canoe. With these traits compined they are awarded the title.....Asshat.

The real def of asshattery: The actions or aftermath created or caused by the asshat in question. If the person who did these actions was not awarded this title already, then they will awarded the title asshat.

That's nothing.

I just lost a fully geared character from just spawing into a serve with 3 damn people on it.

Yeah, I always come across the ONE other guy on the server when I'm on low-pop servers like that but when I'm on maxed out 50/50 servers I can't find a soul. The other day, I was geared up in a ghillie and whatnot and logged into a server with one person on it. I found that one person. He proceeded to chase me all over Cherno taking shots at me until I lost him. Shortly after I lost him, he logged out. Better luck next time Alecs.

Still, do the tomato thing. For its own sake.

I did laugh a little.

You just got a little annoyed. He was a little green, maybe. I have been there in other games. It's ok to be new, but pretend to know what you're talking about!!

It's like at work where a new employee got hired and then tries to pretend they know what I know.... umm dude. I can tell that you're full of it LOL

At least you tried to share a moment. I agree you may have took a deep breath and dealt with it differently, like a torture lesson..

Not anymore. Went there recently and it seems they removed it.

I once shot at a newbie to drive him away after we'd played together for a while, because he was annoying the hell out of me with his endless questions. I kinda felt bad watching him zigzag for his life. But, such is life in Chernarus.
