Channel tips for youtube?

Recommended Posts

So a couple of weeks ago i started streaming and posting videos to youtube and now one of them is nearly at 1,000 views!

-not the biggest milestone by all parts but its a first for me so oh yeah!

Anyway what I was wondering is what do you guys like to see in video's? I want to build a community of players that talk and play together (we have a server that we're planning on turning into a recording / streaming server) so people and subscribers can join in and feature in the video's, but to make that work I need to build the community more!

So like I was saying what do you guys want to see in video's? Im completely open to trying out new stuff on the channel and since it's mainly DayZ vids that go up, thought you would have the best opinion since you probably watch other channels on youtube!

One of the idea's we were going to try out was to have a gameshow, a quiz type show where you get it right, go to the next round, get it wrong and ...get taken outside.... with the winner getting fully geared up :D

So what do you guys want to see in the vids anyway? Any idea's i'll be sure to try out over xmas since I'll have some time off work!

Cheers for taking the time to read the post guys,

Cobaas

EDIT: *Video Removed* should make this about the actual question in the post now

Sorry but You do not see any one else here "Begging" for views. If your content is good Word Of Mouth will have you up there, and the Gameshow scrap that already been done. It is important to remain Original

not exactly begging for views, more for the fact that i was happy to see a video of mine close to 1000 views

and I wanted to share with the community and see if anyone had any input or experience of what they wanted to see, so i could continue and improve.

in case you missed it.

If all else fails Spam the Dayz Forum...... OH wait

seeing as how both of your posts at this point have just been derogatory and in no way productive or to the point of what the topic was about, you have no reason to comment, unless of course there is something else you could be doing, which seems unlikely at this point, but DO correct me if i'm wrong

Ridiculous that I started this to get some idea's and feedback and all I get is you being completely off topic, so again...

Change the Channel Marge.............. Click

As i have said a number of times, and tried to be as polite as possible about it, do NOT comment if you're not going to be on topic to the question already stated at the start.

You might want to read the forum rules too, heres a link, just in case you missed that aswell

http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/153786-forum-rules-roles-and-guidelines/

You might want to read rules 2, 3, and 9. so let's leave it at that.

They are on topic and stating their opinions. You seem desperate and spammy. Try not doing that and produce new original content.

Right so, i've edited the post so the video is now removed since the topic wasn't supposed to be about the vid, but about what could be done / people want to see

Hi man, I have written the below relatively bluntly because there is a fair bit there and I wanted to get it all out, I hope you take it in the right way but I wanted to state what I thought and didn't really dress it up too much.

Feedback:-

1- Forget views and try to work on likes. Your vid may have close to 1000 views but it has 4 likes. When you first start off your like percentage is gonna be low but 4/1000 is too low. This should tell you that there is work to do on your video quality. You may be really proud of the vid (and you should be!) but in 4 months time if you have progressed on you will look back at this vid and cringe a little. I do with my earlier vids (and most of my later ones too to be honest!). If you do a video with just 300 views but 20 likes, that is a better video than this one. Videos with more views aren't always the ones that get you the most subs (if that is what you are aiming for), you want more of the people that watch to buy in to the content and to you and then they will sub. More people watching doesn't equate to a guarantee of more subs. My most popular video views wise has four times more views than any of my others but it isn't even in my top 10 for subs converted.

2- Keep releasing vids as regularly as you can and try to improve them as you go. Improve something each time at first if poss. You don't need to ask here for feedback, YouTube gives you all the info you should need. In terms the likes, how much of the video people are actually watching before moving on etc. You just look at this and when you do one that does better than the others, look at what you did and replicate that more.

3- Narration- set the scene and add your personality (by that I don't mean try to be funny, I mean be yourself). This video is you hiding in a bush with a guy running around a few times, with a bit of a back story in terms of why he was looking for you and what you were trying to do that would have really made a difference.

4- Sound, the sound disappears completely for several seconds while your mic is open. Why? I'm sure this is a glitch in the rec or the edit but to the viewer it could look like you were hiding something that you said to the player. Almost like you were talking to him, and it was set up (I'm not saying it was, just saying how it may have looked).

5- Never repost your videos on here or on Reddit. If you do, no matter how you dress it up you will look a little desperate. You may well be asking for feedback but still the post can be taken by many as... I have 1k views, how can I boost it to 2k, I know I will ask for feedback , please watch my video....

6- People will only come back if you give them a reason to. You can either be an MLG super soldier of a DayZ player (certainly not me!) and they will come back to see your skills or you can be the guy that finds another way to entertain whether it be your humour or the tension/suspsense you build in to videos with music, or the professional way you edit your vids. However you do it, you need to work out what you are going to do to make people want to come back.

7- Be careful with sub annotations as it can be a turn off at first when you are just starting out. When you get a bit bigger they kinda work a little better if you want to use them. If you are gonna use them try to make them as part of the outro if poss and not in the actual footage.

Perfect, this was what I was looking for! just feedback so cheers for that!

1. Will do, some of the other vids have alot less views:likes - so higher ratio i suppose, meaning better vid.

2. That's what i'm trying to do atm, get a couple of vids out a week, and i've been using the analytics to see what's happening in the vids too.

3. Yeah ha, this was just a short thing I done for dayzTV, to show the ghillie's effectiveness, got me on the front page uprising though!

4. Yeah i removed my audio file because it didn't seem relevant when I threw it together for DayZTV, but put it back in on the channel trailer (basically me laughing at him)

5. Won't be doing that again! Not worth it!

6. That's one of the parts that I'm not totally sure of yet, just wanting to try some things out.

7. Will do, heard it was good to have them there but probably just take them off.

Anyway man thanks for the feedback, I do appreciate it!

But what might it have done if you had put in that little bit more effort as I mentioned in the original feedback?. Don't sell your vids short as "just a short thing I did for DayZTV". You gotta make all of them to the best standard you can. A vid like this takes no time at all to make, and a few mins more to add in some comedy music and a bit of narration could have transformed the whole thing!

Before you render you gotta watch what you have done back and ask yourself if it is done in the best way you can do it. If it's not you need to redo it before you render and upload. People notice vids that have had time put in to them, they also notice those that haven't......

Havent seen your vid... but....

Don't add a little screen of your face/reactions on your vid,  a la jacksepticeye and pewdiepie (both of whom I absolutely hate with a passion) etc... on their "gaming" channels

If I want to watch a game I want to watch the actual game... I don't care what your face looks like

I think TRMZ summed it up perfectly. Just make sure you are happy with the content you have released, and ask yourself the golden question:

"would you enjoy watching this video?". If the answer is yes, upload that badboy! If its no...maybe spend a few more days editing it :)

Thanks Twig! Just been watching your vids then came on here and saw you commented on the post! Pretty cool! Loved how you held up that guy with a fire extinguisher!

Theres not much i can add here, its pretty much all been covered.

In terms of advertising though, i find the steam community to be very helpful in getting noticed. Its slow but constant. Reddit is good if you make it to the front page, if you dont you will be lucky to get 20 views.

Dayz forums however, despite what you may think, is actualy the worst place to advertise videos. Iv been posting here for a year now and if i had stuck with only posting here i would not have got anywhere. People seem to skim through the topics but dont view the video that the topic is about. Maybe its because we only get the longterm members in this section so they have seen it all.
