How to play the dayz mod?

Hi all, over 300 hours on dayz sa (still loving it), but everywhere I look so many people say the mod is the way to go. So here I am wanting to know how exactly I go about it. I see I can dl the dayz mod off steam so that's where ill start. Then it says I need arma 2 and arma 2 operation arrowhead. So is that all I need to play the arma 2 dayz mod?

 

I notice it says for the best experience I should buy the arma 2 complete package but that's no longer on sale, what am I missing out on if I just get arma 2 and arma 2 op a?

There's a guide on the forum here that'll walk ya through installing everything and what you need - buy ya armaII and OpArrowhead are what you need to begin the process

Hello and welcome to the Forum,

 

the reason it says "best experience" is because you get higher texture quality along with it for characters and vehicles, depending on the DLC you're buying.

 

As far as setting up DayZ Mod goes:

 

1. Buy ARMA 2 on Steam
2. Download ARMA 2 from Steam
3. Launch ARMA 2 through Steam
4. Buy ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead on Steam
5. Download ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead from Steam
6. Launch ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead through Steam
7. Download ARMA 2: DayZ Mod from Steam
8. Launch ARMA 2: DayZ Mod through Steam
9. Done.

Next steps would be using steam to bring DayZ to the latest beta 1.8.3 and then install DayZLauncher to find servers, download submods, etc.

Ok guys I've downloaded the basics(Arma 2, Arma2 OP A, steam Dayz mod, dayz commander).

 

So just a few more questions, when I look in the distance its kinda blurry, and motion blur when I look left to right, what settings would fix that?

 

And how do I put a hatchet into my hands?

im having an issue with this damn mod... i installed everything and launched from steam and im getting this weird message upon entering servers. if anyone knows whats up let me know.

The server you are connecting to is not dayzmod, but a mod of this mod.

Make sure you do not use DayZCommander but DayZLauncher.
