A central theme of dayz is for players to kill each other over limited food/water and to acquire better equipment.

WHAT IF WE CONDUCTED AN EXPERIMENT.....

On an isolated server with its own HIVE, there is unlimited food and water and guns and ammo everywhere. You are playing on the server and it is almost full, would you shoot another player who was not yet hostile to you?

This experiment will separate people into two groups, people who kill for their own survival, and people who kill for the fun of it. That is the truth of Dayz, as long as there are people who kill not out of the necessity for survival, there will always be people who kill for the fun of it. And Dayz will not be fun as it is without these people.

So accept the reality that Dayz is a PvP game to some and Survival sim for others, expect encounters with both types of people if you want to play Dayz.

Oh I'm sure I'll encounter the PVP players. They'll be the ones on the side of the road that starved to death ;)

I think we already had this last patch lol, there were loot glitch servers.

What do you think people are going to do? There prob not going to be as aggressive while looting, but the end result will be the same. The "KOS" will remain. The reason why is there are so many people who play were there goal is to shoot other players. I don't think it would change. Infact I could see the turn over time from being geared to pvping (which some players dont even bother doing) being even quicker. So pvp prob would be even  more wreckless then there already is.

But yeah I really do not see how it would change peoples mindsets other then not worrying about getting geared up even more.

But one thing I have noticed about players who play dayz (in game, not the forums so much) is for the majority of players there end game is combat. Its just the truth with this game. I think thats what the exp would show. Survival parts of the game is just something they have to do to keep there avatar alive... For me its the other way around, I play to surive 1st and pvp is just something I do when either someone is in my way or I am looking for trouble. But I never go into it with the idea Im prob going to die, I always thing I going to do what ever posible to stay alive and keep my team mates alive. Many players got it mixed up the way I look at it.

But the idea that DayZ is a social game is somewhat wrong. Its really not that much. People you meet randomly are vary hard to trust. Basicly I find that 80 to 90% of players that I see on a server does not have my best interests in mind. Other then team speak DayZ SA as it stands is not really that social. If it is social its kind of a twisted version of it.

I think this is interesting subject matter, but reality is its much more simple then most think and its really kind of worth worrying about while playing...Psychlogy that is.

Also something interesting I learned after long hours of playing is. Players that are not armed tend to be the only ones that are freindly, once they get the gun they are much much more likely to be hostile....It becomes a option, just knock you over and take your stuff. Its soo true. Its been a long time since I met a random "fully geared" player in game that I conversed with lol a long time.

If anything it'll increase PVP due to the lack of challenge in the game and lack of fear of death. I've encountered the most friendly players when loot (including guns & ammo) is extremely hard to come by.

Man-hunting is a valid playstyle.

What the game needs is for death to have more negative implications, such as loss of more long-term, difficult-to-acquire health statuses and abilities. Then the people who want to run around gunfighting from the get-go will be at a disadvantage to those who take time to build up their character, which is how it should be.

People more likely than 50% of the times does not kill to gain gear they kill because its fun, pvp is always fun, else most online games would not have it.<

Í play it for the pvp. I don't mind encounter people and talking to them.. But playing with my friends and killing other groups or solo players is much more fun to me.

No punishments post-death. It's a new character and previous actions, diseases, broken limbs and whatever should not carry over.

I killed 7 players today and I didn't need anything. I did it because I like shooting people in online shooters and, dress it up as a survival sim if you want, but ultimately, when all is said and done a multiplayer online game that has guns is an online shooter. I never grumble when it happens to me, in fact I usually laugh at my own foolishness, if a player gets the drop on me he earned the kill fair and square, if things were reversed it'd be him staring at the black screen, that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Today I enjoyed killing those 7 players, I don't know them, they may be lovely people, they may be strokers, it matters not, for me the fun of this game is to be found in hunting and killing players, I never interact when in possession of a loaded gun, I may interact if I have no gun or ammo but only to keep them around until I am able to kill them. I love the feeling of looking down the sights, popping off a few rounds and watching them drop, it's something that I will never grow tired of. I am sure I am not alone, I think the vast majority of players also love shooting other players, that is a universal truth and no amount of crying or tinkering with game mechanics will change it.

Killing players is just plain fucking wonderful.

I won't be at a disadvantage when I wait for you run through my area and I pop a cap in your ass from behind a tree. Actually, the fact that death has more penalties would make killing you even more exciting lol.

I, for one, will still shoot the majority of people I see at the earliest opportunity as a method of self-preservation. If I don't shoot them, experience teaches that they will most certainly shoot me. This is the reality that DayZ has presented us from the time of the mod till now, and likely into the future.

I can't argue with that! Except that, personally, I don't usually go to PvP hotspots, so if you wanted to wait for me behind a tree you find might yourself having to camp out in the wilderness for hours on end without seeing a soul before you got lucky. But yes, I agree with you, and I don't think it would be a bad thing, either.

The point is, different styles of gameplay should be rewarded, but have drawbacks. Coastal PvPing for those who want instant action, but with the disadvantage that, if you don't die of gunshot wounds first, your character will be weak from malnourishment and, probably, acquired injuries. Whereas, those who want to spend time developing the character's health and fitness (and abilities?) to a higher level, building a more permanent presence for themselves in the world, can also do so, with the drawback that it's less action-packed and there's always a risk that some bandit or freshspawn who's come into possession of a loaded firearm can take you out at any given point if you're not careful, thereby deleting all your hard-earned progress.

That's my idea of how the game should be, and I'm reasonably encouraged that it's going in that direction.
