How did this not kill this player?

"assume". Funny. I do not assume anything the blood effect doesn't mean. The hit was registered.  B)

As mentioned above, the client could have registered a hit but the server didnt. Or he could have hit the backpack, or through the tree, or just the arm, doing damage but not enough to distroy inventory.

With the network and server latency as they stand currently, its hard to just say 'hes cheating' because of someone not dieing when they should have. Running around claiming he is hacking is rather silly.

I've noticed with Shotguns in general, that if you do not hit them from the front or their head, the damage absorbed through the backpack being full of stuff, is enough to negate any fatal damage.

I've used the Shotguns on multiple occasions, and I have 8 out of 10 times killed someone in one shot, as I tend not to be over 50 meters away, and being used to the Shotguns spread, I aim where most of it will hit my target, the other 2 times, I either broke their legs or they went unconscious.

But all and all it's a good gun, you just can't be too far away, or expect firing round after round is going to hit what your aiming at...

Also try first person when firing.

Broke arm, hit back pack, missed the last couple shots. Possibly lag. Hard to tell because you were in 3rd person most of the time. I have heard that that shotgun doesnt do much damage. Its possible anything you may have hit him with just damaged his inventory.

The shotgun does plenty damage, but the spread of the pellets in game seems far to much, especially with the pumpgun (the unsawed doublebarrel seems to have a much much longer range). You need to be very close to get a full pellet hit. It does seem likely that only a few pellets actually hit anything with the two first shots.

Aye, they could also have broken the damage at close range. I know for a while we were oneshoting people at 75 yards if a single pellet hit them.
