Open Doors

Recommended Posts

I haven't played DayZ in a while. I looked for a post answering my question, but since I didn't find anything I decided to write this.

Lately, everytime I join a server (no matter if it is full or empty) I found most, if not all, the doors in the game OPEN. At first I thought someone has already looted the entire map, but then I started finding shotguns and pistols lying around inside open rooms. So my question is, do doors start open now?

It's easily confusing...

Since 0.49 update, when a server restarts the doors are either open or closed, depending on the building type (so barracks are usually open, for example).

However, it also seems to be the case that door status is actually persistent. So if someone closes an open one, it will remain closed on restart. How this interacts with the point above is hard to say.

What this boils down to is that it's much more difficult to tell if a building has been looted from the state of its doors.
