steveba50 0 Posted July 1, 2012 During this alpha phase i've noticed a lot of game mechanic glitches that have never really gone away such as:* Falling off ladders/steps a few feet off the ground an breaking legs/dying*doors crushing me to death* dead bodies melting into the floor* logging into the game fully equipped but now in debug forest and the game killing me*Inventory bugs*someone mentioned their vehicle having a head on with a rabbit and dyingJust some i can think of off the top of my head. Can these issues ever be resolved with the Arma 2 engine at the core of this game?Seems most problems are related to this not the actual mod but I have no technical knowledge in this area i admit.Would the people with more expertise mind chiming in on this.I love the mod and have purchased 3 copies and I want a good future for this game but the engine runniing it concerns me a bit
ZedsDeadBaby 2287 Posted July 1, 2012 It's not perfect but it's absolutely the best one I can imagine for this game.
ruecanonrails 24 Posted July 1, 2012 It's a good thing the game is still in it's alpha stage ;)I think this thread is better kept until they have a version they are happy to call full release. The game is just getting a rough mock up of whats to come, a feature here and there, and TONS of bugs and glitches. The bugs and glitches will most likely be fixed in the beta stage. The alpha stage is being used to test ideas and use buggy codes that only "just work" as place holders until they have time to go back and fix it.If they went and fixed every little glitch with this game WHILE in alpha. Add something fix it entirely until it works perfect then move onto the next feature.. The game would NEVER get finished. The problem with coding and creating games is that nearly everything you add a new feature or tweak something it has a good chance at breaking everything. By fixing the major bugs and glitches the development is able to continue and work on the minor bugs and glitches can happen later when most of the features have been added.Of course minor bug fixes will happen all the time during updates but more or less they will be left until further along development
silenced (DayZ) 5 Posted July 1, 2012 Which engine would be suited better, in your opinion? Constructive critism always gives some hint and advice. But only complaining is the wrong way.
zorisx 7 Posted July 1, 2012 I would agree that this engine is completely flawed for this type of desired game. Arma 3 will offer vast improvements and optimizations enabling a perfect release for Day Z. With the lush forests and in-depth cities already featured in ArmA 2, I can't wait to see that EVERY building in Arma 3 is not only enterable...but destructible ;)
Wulfear 6 Posted July 1, 2012 Well if pvp is the goal, I'd say there are better ones. In fact whole games already made that do it better....
SupWithThat 2 Posted July 1, 2012 The only bad thing about it using the ArmA 2 engine as-is, is that ArmA 2 uses that script injection crap which is making the script kiddies think they're all conquering gods.If they could get it into a standalone package with an adaptation of the engine that doesn't use that (and other things) then it would be perfect. deepfried 95 Posted July 1, 2012 I doubt there are many FPS engines that can cope with the sheer scale of the map (and number of players), but other than that I would like do see this game made in the stalker xray engine... yeah its buggy but a lot of the features we want in DayZ are already in stalker. Lukio (DayZ) 24 Posted July 1, 2012 The graphical / game engine itself is perfect for DayZ. Collision detection and the whole Gamespy server browser, clunky user interface, no auto-update and security flaws aren't favourable, but some of these thing are not directly engine dependent or can be (eventually) fixed. xcess (DayZ) 0 Posted July 1, 2012 Collision and animation have been problems since Operation Flashpoint. They're the only real engine problems I see.

yimmy 0 Posted July 1, 2012 For me the "pacing" defined by the engine is what helps DayZ to be so intense and enjoyable. If this setting was placed into a different engine, for example, one that allows more fluidity, faster movement/playstyle and such, the "pacing" would be much different and the overall "feeling" in the world therefore totally different... -potentially for the worse...
