threedogification 41 Posted November 24, 2014 Provided that we have stones in our fireplace, we should be able to craft bread and cook it if we have flour, water, yeast, and sugar. Bread is a staple in all diets, so why not in dayz?
Rags! 1966 Posted November 24, 2014 Because getting it would mean having to include flour, yeast, and sugar into the loot spawns for the sole purpose of baking bread.
Tatanko 5591 Posted November 24, 2014 (edited) As I just suggested in another thread, unleavened bread would be slightly more "realistic" and require one less item to be present in the game. It's far easier to make in a survival situation, I would think. Actually baking it would probably be the hardest part though, since we don't yet have ovens or baking pans. VermillionX 78 Posted November 24, 2014 Some form of preserved bread you can loot? Sure.Baking it yourself? Nope. Too many ingredients. Little nutritional value.Unless your goal from the beginning is to make bread (Not exactly a first choice among freshspawns); Yeast, Sugar and Flour are all one-use things with no other applications (You cannot eat them). To carry all the ingredients and cooking instruments you would need to fill an entire large backpack.
Tatanko 5591 Posted November 24, 2014 Yeast, Sugar and Flour are all one-use things with no other applications (You cannot eat them).Yeast is very specific in its use, but flour and sugar are not. They have many, many cooking uses, and if more advanced cooking is to be added to the game, you would definitely find better and more creative uses for them than just plain ol' bread. As I suggested above, unleavened bread would be one way of including that food item in some form without the need for a dedicated-use item like yeast. threedogification 41 Posted November 24, 2014 Thanks for all the support guys, and yes, unleavened bread would be the way to go. You could maybe make hard tac, in case you run out of good canned food, because hard tac can't be ruined. If it gets shot, it breaks into smaller pieces that are still edible. You can maybe grind flower from wheat in the northern fields, and get sugar from convenience stores
cheeseburger8 80 Posted November 24, 2014 As long as you can make a cheeseburger with said bread, I'm cool with it.
Tatanko 5591 Posted November 24, 2014 As long as you can make a cheeseburger with said bread, I'm cool with it.It might not be as tasty or photo-worthy as what's in your signature/avatar :p
cheeseburger8 80 Posted November 24, 2014 (edited) It might not be as tasty or photo-worthy as what's in your signature/avatar :P Yeah, but, you know, it's still a cheeseburger. Maybe you could make ketchup out of those tomatoes you farm. :D Edited November 24, 2014 by Cheeseburger8
