DayZ - Opinion on Server Hopping

Recommended Posts

Being able to switch servers is a good thing - but saving time by doing so is not. Right now gearing up using server hopping is just massively overpowered as you can travel between places far easier by hopping than by walking, especially if they are high value loot areas. Thats what needs to be toned down by attaching an appropiate cost to (excessive) server switches.

As for fun - server hopping just replaces a big part of the survival and interaction gameplay with boring waiting times and mindless looting only to get to the "what now?" point much sooner. You are not supposed to be fully geared most of the time - you are supposed to struggle to get there and fail more often than not. Now there are some things still missing (more advanced survival aspects, harder PvE, an advanced loot economy etc.) and quite a few bugs so getting from low gear to high gear is less of "survive long enough while still taking risks" (as it should be) and more of "run around until you find what you are looking for" (which is more time-consuming than challenging).

I think nerfing server hopping to a point where in game travel routes are more attractive than hopping and you have something to do on your travel instead of just looting one town, finding everything you need to stay alive and then running straight to the next military base. This might even reinforce itself by resulting in more interactions during travel because more people actually use the ingame routes - making ingame routes more enjoyable and less boring.

My Opinion: IT KILLS THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE.

you probably haven't played the mod. if you had you would know how good it is to have a unique character per/server. And have that feeling of going on to the airfield to loot don't knowing what to expect since you only have that server to go there. On Standalone, you just go on an empty server and do whatever the fuck you want on the airfield without worring at all. Then after that, you hop on a full server to see if there is anyone there looting, but it never has, cause no one is dumb enough to go looting on a 50/50 server. So yea, that's my opinion bro.

I HOPE that one day they will make these unique server's where you spawn with your character and you can only use that character on that specific server.

Don't try and justify your cowardice and playing in a manner that's obviously not the design of the game.

I have been lurking on these forums for quite some time now and it is apparent that server hopping is frowned upon.

So maybe i have a wild misunderstanding of the game mechanics, or at least the intended direction of them. I was under the impression that the whole reason servers were run in a hive manner was to control the economy of loot. With that in mind i thought they were going to balance loot by limiting certain items, or in essence a cap on how many will be in existence at any time amongst all the servers of that hive.

I know that is not fully implimented yet but if it did come to fruition would that not be a reason to hop in order to find that helicopter that was spotted on "X" server and hunt it down to take the parts you need and go back to your server to repair a heli on it and have a working heli?
