Downloading Arma 2+ operations+ dayz

need help downloading dayz. to my understanding, I need Arma 2: Operations expansion pack. I'd rather not pay for anything right now, as I am simply trying the game. Please make it clear as to how I will download this because I am confused. Some websites say Arma 2 + Operations are free, while others say I must pay. bulllet points and links would be great! thanks!

If I remember correctly as I have not run any lites only purchased you can Run Arma 2 free with a purchased Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead and play multiplayer/mods.  This is not absolutely free but it will cost less then combined operations and achieve the same end goal.  From there you would download A2 Dayz mod from steam to run.

Realistically I have seen a whole host of issues when a user trys to run free but if your that bent on it that should achieve the goal.  If I was you I would simply shell out the extra 8 quid for combined ops on steam. Then download A2 Dayz mod from the above link.

id go for that option too, especially as you get ALL the original game's content/campaigns etc and all those hi res textures and sound files too.

 

There is a reason why those "free" versions are free, they are tasters and are not great quality compared to the final product.

On Tuesday 22nd April 2014, nearly 3 years after its first announcement, Bohemia Interactive will be closing the Arma 2 Free servers and discontinuing its availability

 

I was under the impression that Arma II Free doesnt work any longer and cannot be used to play DayZ, like this, anymore? Am i wrong? :)

Because of the whole gamespy thing.

Unsure its still available through armaholics at which point you would need to manually update versions through the main site.  Then alot of copy pasta of Le .PBO's not sure if it still works I have not touched A2 in a few moons.  Nor ever touched "Free."

Same for me, i just bought the game because i loved it, never needed to try a demo tbh hehe.

But i can confirm DayZ mod works just fine on steam, its just a simple download and you are ready to play the mod, without any hassle. Assuming you Combined Operations ofc.
