PongoZ 127 Posted November 18, 2014 I know right? I got a range of 833m on the hospital and 770m on the church as a secondary estimate. Good enough for a confident 800 range adjustment. We don't need to know the exact distance. That is a good use of that laser or any laser. If they put in a real laser with 6x magnification and 1000 m range, in many climatic conditions you would still have to do just what you did, laz something you can get a read off of and estimate from there, perfectly reasonable. But that has nothing to do with identifying if the laser should have magnification or not.
gibonez 3633 Posted November 18, 2014 Its a laser, it will either be accurate, or it will not give a reading. It can either pick up the return or not.The return depends a bit on what your bouncing it off but based on the power of the laser it either will read or not. It wont lie to you.Sorry but have you ever used one?Nope that's not how things work. There is a reason why 15 k dollar vector 21s can range 10k meters plus with perfect accuracy meanwhile 1000 dollar civilian ones struggle to get accurate readings at what they are marketed for.Best way to describe it is think of a laser beam that shoots out as an angle at close range it's small thus very visible but the further out it spreads out this Is the main reason why they struggle.I've used a vortex and it's rated for 1000 yards unless you aimed at something dark and solid it struggled with 800 yards.Meanwhile military grade ones don't struggle at all.Don't believe me look up reviews for the Bushnell yardage pro 450 and look at what ranges they struggle at.

Just say that in your opinion the devs are right no matter what they do and quit pretending to discuss the issue.

Just say that in your opinion the devs are right no matter what they do and quit pretending to discuss the issue. No you said it will either give an accurate reading or no reading at all and that is completely wrong. It will give you readings all day at a wide range of ranges. It just won't be accurate at all if It is a crappy range finder like the one in game.I'm not sure why you mentioned the devs since I'm specifically talking about real life and how real life range finder performance would avenue in game. I have never shot a laser and had it put up a number that was nonsense unless there was something between me and where I was looking that I had not seen. When it gets misty they just say cant read. blacklabel79 949 Posted November 20, 2014 lol no it doesn't but glad you like it. it does work well if you dont play alone.

durzos 23 Posted November 20, 2014 (edited) I've had building ranged at 970m with it, however once you go much further it throws out an error, so guessing its a max 1000m range. Edited November 20, 2014 by Durzos
chodeofwar 145 Posted November 20, 2014 (edited) The part where you find the range. QFT edit. Optical zoom levels with a numerical value in this game are rendered null and void with the use of the FOV slider. Edited November 20, 2014 by chodeofwar
Judopunch 523 Posted November 20, 2014 he lazed a building, a huge building. then he took 17 shots to hit the guy(few military count it as "sniping" if it takes you 3 magazines to get the hit.)Pro tip, if your willing to take 17 shots, keep the laser in your pocket and just use ranging shots lol. As I said, the thing works as a hill or building range finder. But if you want to engage people with it, its like a hand gun, or shot gun range finder. Not much market for those for some reason, no idea why the hills of this land are full of them.(maybe people threw then away as they were useless)Sounds like he doesnt understand how elevation and range and bullet drop all work together. If your are higher / lower, and if you are shooting a faster/heavier round, and at medium or long range, all effect where the shot will actually hit. Not just the range. PongoZ 127 Posted November 21, 2014 yup, my 6.55 shoots 7.9 inches low at 300 yards but if the target is 100 feet below me, it would likely average out. You could program a laser to tell you the effective range if it could tell the slope(like my golf laser tries to do, but it would be different for every loading (and barrel length)so it would be pretty specialized
