AKS-74u

Recommended Posts

I found an AKS-74U and figured what the hell, and put it in my bag. I then later found some ammo for it, but still no clip, but before i go on a hunt for a clip... I already use an AK101 for my primary, so is there any point in keeping this AKS-74u for any practical reason? or should i just drop it?

Sigh I know the difference between a clip and a mag. Can we stop being Nazis about that and just answer a simple question.

If you find a clip, you could give it to a sniper friend. Mosin/AKS-74u is a crazy combo. AK101 will always be better as a primary.

I thought sniping was ruined a few updates ago unless you are so close to your target it can't really be called sniping. Did they fix it??

Don't want to start a flame war but that is actually a magazine, A mag is used to contain and feed the ammo into the gun itself whilst a clip is used as a loading aid for weapons that have internal magazines and can come in varying styles depending on the gun

I hate to come off as pedantic, but please educate yourselves and use proper terminology.

Clip vs Magazine - There is a difference!

Here is a quick visual aid

*sigh*

Thanks

Not in DayZ where clips work just like magazines. Though I would like it to change so using a clip would actually empty the clip and put the rounds in your weapon instead of the whole clip. Would add some value to those clips aside from marginally faster reload and significantly more work to get your weapon ready after shooting it empty (as the clip stays inside and blocks the internal magazine).

It doesn't matter how they work in game. A clip is not a magazine and a magazine is not a clip.

I guess since I am a gun owner and enthusiast it bugs me more than others when the terms are used improperly.

Wrong.

And as a "gun owner and enthusiast" I would expect you to care how clips in this game do not function realistically.

Y'all are getting way off topic here. Thanks for starting a flame war.

AK74U is inferior as a primary weapons. A 3 shot kill weapon, ammo is sparse, and magazines are harder to locate than any atm.

AK101 master race. Ammo is overly abundant, magazines are bountiful and easy to locate.

There's a bug where you can instant reload the AKS. Too bad nobody can support that absurd firepower.

The way I see it, the newer 5.45 AKs are in a neato position. 5.45 in dayz is close to 9mm damage, but it has the fastest air speed of around 910 m/s and a better flight trajectory. Ak74 is less accurate than the 101/AKM and the AKS is about the same MOA as the MP5K. All the MP5K's got is higher rof and better optics, because the AKs cannot mount any scopes.

All hail to fellow Hero!

No, they didn't fix it. Mosin sway is very heavy. Still, you can hit at 700-800m stationary zed head at least half of the time, with Mosin+LRS+comp, before zed starts running zz to kill you.

You have exactly only one attempt to make headshot, and about half of second to do it right.

It is what it is ....

Off: so I am building sanctuary for now. You know, for good people. Those who arrive ....  survive this time. For real.

People seem to disagree about the AK101. The AKS74U isn't that great either - more like a submachine gun that also has the drawbacks of an assault rifle. At least once you found a submachine gun with magazine you won't have too much trouble locating ammo. But in the end the best automatic weapon is the AKM by basically being the same as the AK101 but dealing more damage.

Sure, I care that some things are wrong. But ya know, Alpha...?

Wait, is it the AKM that takes 5.55mm or AK101...

Either way it's the one that fits the 5.55mm rounds that are overly abundant, while the other that fits the SKS as well is almost non existent anymore. My mistake if it's not the 101, I stick to civi weapons.

If you've got the space to fit it in your backpack and a mag or two for it,
it'll be an amazing back up, just for the sake of having two different ammo types.

No you meant the right one - its only that 7.62x39mm (AKM, SKS rounds) seems to be slightly more common than 5.56x45mm for most people. However, I can see more people picking up the larger rounds as they feed the weak but common CR527, the generally very effective (and common) SKS and the AKM - arguably the best weapon in game by overall performance - while 5.56x45mm is shared between the AK101 - a little weaker but about as common as the AKM - and the very rare M4A1 only.

What do you mean "ruined sniping"?

They mean it's no longer super easy to take someone down from 800 yards with one shot.

If you like sniping (however screwed up it is ATM), then you may want to hold it. Once you found a Mosin, you can ditch the AK101 and then have guns for both long distances and CQBs. Other than that there's hardly a reason to have the AKS-47U take up space in your inventory. Plus like somebody mentioned, there's MP5K which can have M4 optics attached to it.

IMO I'd take the AKS-74u over the MP5K. The MP5 does have a high rate of fire and it's better when you're a few feet away from the target. The MP5 fails once the target is past 50 yards. The bullet dispersion and low damage of 9MM rounds in this game make it hard to get solid kills. Where the AKS-74u is crazy accurate with no scope up to at least 200 yards, maybe more. It fires slower but 3 shots to kill if someone is running up on you is only .3 seconds. You might switch the MP5 to the Mosin for those 50 yard + plus shots but I don't think the Mosin is particularly effective at that range. It really shines 200+. Add in some weapon sway from running because lets face it no sniper wants to be in the 50 yard range of an opponent, geared healthy players taking two chest hits to drop and the Mosin falls flat with its low rate of fire.

What are these 3 shots to kill, 1 shot to kill etc etc assumptions? I've never seen conclusive tests about weapons on human targets. geared target=/=bambi. It depends on more factors.

So I took our AKS for a test run. 5.45 has a damage rating of 7.2 while 9mm is 7.0, so you'll know what happens.

On our 7th or so target I went up a house with half a magazine. I found the target, took aim and dumped that half a magazine and he was still alive. I had to back off so my wingman could finish him off.

5.45 is like 9mm 2.0.

Anyone else found it in the brick arch building? I found one on top of the stairs and I wasn't sure if it was a drop or a spawn. Most likely a drop

propably a drop.

Oh, does the PSO-1 scope work on either the AKS or the AK74? or is it just a bug that they cant but are supposed to?
