shoe comfort wear anyone care to explain?

i understand show wear but do certain shoes wear down less like combat boots or running shoes and as for comfort what effect does it have on your toon do wellies make you run slower or cause you to get fatigued quicker than say pristine military/combat boots. i know it just updated but i tend to not play experimental or look into whats new till its on stable so i get more surprises so if anyone knows or has a theory it would be much appreciated thx.

Initially, shoe degredation was hardcore!! You could run for 5 minutes (any shoe, any terrain) and it would be ruined. Ruined shoes (or no shoes) cause damage to your character.

 

I don't believe the different types of shoes change your speed, but different shoes wear differently on certain terrains. Basically combat boots, jungle boots and hiking boots are the bomb!!

Footwear degrades at different rates depending on the type of footwear, running surface, and movement speed. No type of footwear makes you any slower or faster. Duct tape can be used to reinforce shoes that have taken damage.

thx for the info. it makes sense the comfort word in the changelog kinda threw me off but no i get it with the wear depending on terrain and type of shoe/boot.

Perhaps the word comfort concerns the status messages "my feet hurt" and "my feet feel sore" that pop up when your character starts to take damage because of ruined / no footwear.

Messages "My feet hurt","My feet are sore" means you are loosing 10 health/sec.

 

You may want to stop and repair your boots, or change to new spare ones, or start looking for new pair.

 

If you stop and not moving, you not loosing health, so you can wait your crew bring you some to save you.

 

Funny thing, even you are crawling, with your legs horizontal, and no terrain pressure on feet/boots, you still loosing health. I didn't get it why, but.  bh.

In experimental is was perfectly possible zo go without shoes if you were energized and hydrated (anyone who beat the early game is this) and stayed on roads for most of the time. Because then your health regeneration was strong enough to counteract any damage caused by your shoes.

I also figured the damage is still applied if you are swimming - probably a bug.
