What exactly qualifies as server hopping?

Recommended Posts

I was just mulling this over today, do we have a consensus of what server hopping is? Example: last night I did a brief Zeleno-Pavlovo run to check the barracks for Gorka and AK ammo. I found some, then bummed around the Komarovo police station for a bit. Logged out for around an hour to eat then got back on, only on a different server. I then did another Pavlovo to Zeleno run before heading off to Green Mountain area to search for helis. Is that considered server hopping? If not is it because I was off for around an hour before coming back on, or does anyone think that repeating a loop twice or more in the same day is always considered hopping no matter the downtime between sessions?

Not really.

Server hopping example is being at an airfield in the ATC or Jail - looting, camping, waiting 90 seconds, logging into another server and looting, camping, waiting 90 seconds, and logging into... this is server hopping and douchy, completely crap play and unjustifiable.

There's another scenario where you simply hit Play and log in for a bit, realize you're now on a very low pop server and want some interaction. So you log out and look for a high pop server to play on. I don't consider that server hopping.

Server hopping is essentially an exploit used for gearing up, any action to move to a different population server or to play with your friends isn't server hopping.

It's when you camp out an area, and keep switching servers until you get the desired loot. Chosen servers are often empty, so there is a bigger chance of loot still being there.

It's comical to see people think server hopping in standalone is as bad as server hopping was in the mod.

Get over it.  It's still not the "correct" or "realistic" way to play but it is definitely not as negatively associated with as it was in the mod.  DayZ standalone is just not an expansive enough game to play organically for some people.  Loot doesn't respawn.  Servers restart every two hours but realistically you only get 40 good minutes in before you catch the restart.  This is enough time to spawn at svet and run to the nearest barracks...MAYBE....in time.  Why wouldn't you server hop if you want a high powered assault rifle and the high end military gear.

Now for me I don't server hop 1 set of barracks every 2 minutes.  I run a farming route which takes about 15-30 minutes depending on what I'm farming, then switch servers.  This is not the same as what you might commonly refer to as "server hopping" from the mod.
