Melee attack button

Ever hears the story bout the guy who went to his neighbors house to as for help cuz he had been robbed with a butcher knife in his forehead? Even if you stab me in the neck im still gonna have the time to squeeze of a few shots before i black out. Never mind the noise i make dying. Knives are almost never instant just shoot. If you cant then leave. You dont have to kill everyone this is not call of duty. If it is that important to you then sneak up with your axe out.

Yes I have Seen That.  A knife is just about the worst weapon to use if you want an instant kill even if you attack from behind. I think someone has watched too many episodes of 'The Walking Dead and seen a few too many knives wielded by skinny armed women penetrating a human skull almost effortlessly.  And as you have shown unless the knife penetrates to the  Cerebellum and destroys it the kill will not be instant or quiet. The best weapons for an instant kill without a gun are the Fire Axe, the Sledge Hammer, and the Miners Pick should be there also.

If the attacker can manage to Slice through the Subjects neck and cut both left and right common carotid arteries the kill will be quick but not instant or automatically quiet.

I honestly like your suggestion.

 

But instead of going in to the graphic discussion about how you stab someone there are a few things I would like to add.

 

1. Diverting resources.

Implenthing this would require that they take coders away from fixing other excisting bugs (and more pressing issues)

to add a feature that would (sorry to say) almost never be used.

 

2. almost never be used you say?

I have played dayz since the very start, and not one single time have anyone been able to sneak up on me.

This is unrealistic (ofc) but I am playing a zombie apapocalypse, so I am very aware of my surroundings.

Now this might happen if they infact added a reward for sneaking up on someone, I will give you that.

But by giving people a reward for sneaking up on someone everyone will be even more vigilant, and again the feature would not be used as much.

 

3. Fixing the mechanics.

Most battles are in open landscape, and the sound your char makes (even when walking slow) is LOUD.

They would need to make the game more "sneak friendly" to accommodate this feature.

Something I would love to see btw :) But then we are back to point 1 again.

They would also need to update the meelee system in the game, you don`t really hit what you aim for.

 

So even if I like your suggestion (which I do) I hope they focus on more pressing issues, and perhaps we can have backstabbing in the release.

Yeah I don't mean they should add it right now but eventually it'd be great, especially the sneak friendly part, so long as it requires you to not have a backpack full of loose bullets jingling around.

 

I disagree though I think it'd be used a lot, since it went on Steam there are a lot more noob players than oldschool players, who'd practically have immunity but it's still going to be useful against a large portion of the playerbase who're new, just idiots or were focused on some other task.

 

It'd be a good way to execute someone too like an unconscious comrade(I think there should be a penalty to respawning while only unconscious)

 

Granted nobody is going to go on 40 kill streaks stabbing people in the back but it definitely beats walking up to them fists up like you're about to box and just slashing them when they're open to a fatal stab wound, if there's one thing that kills immersion for me it's how poor the melee combat is but there's no way to make it realistic without making it unfair or having QTE's or whatever else.

 

Sneaking up on someone is just a situation where you should be able to kill them with a melee weapon rather than do minor damage and get shot even though in reality the person would have their head caved in or many stab wounds.
