No Servers / Maintenance / Patch Day

Hi, 

     Downloaded from steam yesterday, and played the game last night, been reading a few tutorials to get me started, however when I start the game today, there are only a few servers in the list, they all say either experimental or locked, I cannot connect to play. Have I just chosen a bad day with the servers?

 

Also when I knocked a zombie unconscious and looked at it, I got a ?? weapon and magazine?? symbol, but dont know what it meant or what key to use,,, thx for any help  Kev

please note the huge red bar atop of everything at the moment and read announcements like that before posting:

 

Please be advised; due to patch 0.50 being slated to roll out on stable servers today (Wednesday 29/10/2014), we expect that there will be extended downtime on the servers for maintenance - SMoss

As kilchiron pointed out, wednesday is the server maintenance day. This maintanence usually lasts 3 or 4 hours, but today is update day, so the servers won't be back up until it's evening in Europe.

 

The symbol you have seen is the loot symbol. When you see it, press F by default and it will open your inventory and show the items of the player you are looting so you can take the items. Looting zombies is possible ( as you found out by yourself ) but they never carry any items.

Eugen said the servers will be off "most of the workday", which should be another 2 - 3 hours if everything goes well. No promise on this one though. Can be less, can be more.

Unfortunately, due to new crash related issues caught during last minute testing of patch 0.50, we'll have to push the update back to a later date. Stable branch servers will roll back to version 0.49
