tally2425 2 Posted October 27, 2014 (edited) I know this has probably been discussed around one million times but i can't find anything fairly recent. I know it's early alpha aswell i'm not slating the game as i think it's fantastic. Firstly i want to tell you about my 'rig' Intel i5 3570K @ 4.2Ghz16GB RAM @ 1600mhzNvidia GTX770 Now i guess that's all you need to know about my 'rig, now the problem i have is crazy frame drops in major cities, let's take Novo for example. Now i've fiddled with some settings and followed some guides and some do work but when i do change them the distance i can see is very poor (clay looking buildings) but it does run better. What i want to know is can i get max FOV with fully textured buildings and still high high fps? is there anything to change to get good FPS? Also what do you guys have your config settings at and what in game settings work well? Thanks for reading Edited October 27, 2014 by tally2425
lrp1984 199 Posted October 27, 2014 I seem to remember reading, or being told by someone, that there is a plan to better optimise the game, or change the engine, during the first or second quarter of 2015 which should give you a better FPS and make the game more playable on lower spec'd computers. Yeah but i wouldn't class my computer as low spec it's a fairly competitive gaming computer or am i deluded here?
ChainReactor 922 Posted October 27, 2014 In DayZ, much stuff happens server side, so your internet / network connection can be a bottleneck, too. But in the end the game is far away from being optimized, and it runs on a derivate of the Arma2 engine, which isn't that fps-performant at all.

No, your specs should be fine for this game, and I'm sure you can run 99% of other games at high settings. It really depends on what you consider low FPS? The FPS in DayZ is low for even the best systems, as the game is poorly optimised. With your specs, and some tweaking you should be getting about 60fps in the countryside and around 20-30fps in the cities. There definitely is something wrong if you're dropping to unplayable levels. Yeah all games i can smash ultra settings just dayz struggles in the cities just wondered if there was anything i could do as i didn't think everyone would be playing with 22 fps
lrp1984 199 Posted October 27, 2014 You'd be surprised at how many of us are running around around 20fps in the cities. Be glad you have an Intel processor, as an AMD 8 core 4.2ghz won't run the game anywhere near your i5.

You're not wrong. I believe that they are wanting to do away with the Arma II engine and basically create their own one using the "Good Bits" of the Arma II engine but developing a new system that actually caters to what they require. If this is indeed the case this is a mammoth task.

Thanks for readingyou should have checked your GPU usage before posting this...when i do that, and i have the r9 270x 2gb, its usage rarely goes over 50%, when ingame.there you can see that is not about your computer but its all just the lack of optimization of the game, theres pretty much no way to get 100% decent fps right now, even streamers have to fight with20-30fps in cities with their OP-rigs. Thanks for readingThis has always been the case, Chenro used to be the standard benchmark for performance, think "i get 30 frames in cherno!". On a side note I find any area that has been heavily overhauled like Zeleno or new areas like novo have very poor FPS as well. I assume this will be ironed out as the development continues. If you would like better fps just based on ingame settings I always find object detail and shadows are one of the biggest killers as is that blasted post processing.
