Trees and Vegetation Look Blurry and Blocky

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. I've already posted this on Steam's DayZ forums, but I didn't get any responses so I was hoping maybe someone here would have an answer.

I've been having issues with trees and vegetation in DayZ for a while now. It seems like the trees and bushes don't render fully until I'm literally right next to them. I can be standing a few feet away in-game and they look really blurry, and have absolutely no detail. Trees look kind of strange, and bushes just look like big blobs. I've taken a few screenshots here:

I'm not really sure what the issue is. It's been happening for at least a few months, but I can't really give a precise date on when it started happening. My computer is a lenovo y480 laptop with a GT 650M (with Optimus) an i7 and 8gb of RAM, so although it's not an amazing rig, it should be able to run Dayz as far as I know. The only time I can get any vegetation to look anywhere near normal is if I stand inside of or very, very close to bushes, and even then it doesn't look anywhere near the quality I've seen elsewhere. Grass also looks a bit off, and my character's hair doesn't look quite right either, but everything else (buildings, weapons, items, etc.) seem to be looking fine. I've briefly tried messing with my video settings with no luck. I've also tried to make sure that my computer isn't trying to run DayZ off of my Intel HD Graphics, but the game seems to be running alright other than this issue, so I don't think that's the problem.

I know that the game is in alpha, but I've never noticed the trees or bushes look anything like this in screenshots or videos. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do to remove or at least limit this issue?

Try setting you "objects detail" setting to very high and see if it still does that.  I'm not sure but normally I see those kind of textures from very far away as they are textures not yet rendered, to save FPS as you don't need to see that far, but from your screenshots, it happens at very close distance.

I'll try and do tests later on to try and recreate what you see. I hope you can fix this.

Thanks for the advice, I tried moving that setting to very high (as well as the terrain detail one). Unfortunately I still had the same issue. You're right, it almost does seem like the game is treating the trees as if they're off in the distance.

Thanks anyway. Hope you find something in your tests!

Sadly I couldn't reproduce the same effect you get on screen. Have you tried experimental? And if yes, does it do the same thing there?

My guess is maybe it's the gpu drivers having a hard time with the DayZ engine itself. Even though the software itself is compatible, it still has some hiccups here and there.

Last attempts I would do is download a more recent update for your cards drivers. (If it's not already done.) And still keep an eye out for anyone else who might have the same problems and have found a solution.

Sorry, and good luck!

Have you considered that maybe the leaves are moving very fast?

I hadn't tried experimental before tonight, but unfortunately the same issues are produced. Oddly enough, something that I've been noticing (in stable and experimental) is that trees at medium distance are actually rendering with more quality than trees that are close to me. Trees that are 100-200 feet away from me look pretty good, but trees withing 50 feet (give or take) still look awful.

Wow. That really feels like some corrupted files for the GPU drivers, or corrupted files from the game engine itself. (Or, impossible to fix rare incompatibility...)

I really hope you can fix this. Gotta be pretty annoying.

Good luck again man!
