Goal: Avoid the Nuclear Holocaust

Recommended Posts

So, I watched this video of a nuke being fired from the "Arma2, in all it's glory" thread:

And it gave me an idea.

Suppose the Zed continuously spawn all over the map. When their population reaches a certain number (say, 3000 for example) Chernarus is selected for a tactical nuclear strike to neutralize the growing zombie threat on the island. A nuke is launched, and we all ooh and ahh at the mushroom cloud before everyone dies and the server is reset. Everyone spawns on the beach, and all previously acquired gear/tents/vehicles are vaporized and reset.

The only way to stop the server from resetting is by keeping the zed population in check.

This would at least give us a reason to work together and to shoot the zed.

Ok, so don't crucify me here. It's just a suggestion.

What do you all think?

Problem, people will simply server hop to a server where the zed population is low and then restart on the original after the server is reset.

Also I'm not really hot on the idea anyway.

I'm hoping that server hopping will not remain a permanent feature in game. I figure that it is only temporary.

Also I'm not really hot on the idea anyway.

Fair enough.

I see people joining servers in large groups just to grief others.

If you don't do something just because you're afraid of griefers, then the griefers win. Their whole purpose is to find ways to ruin other people's fun. The only way to combat them is to keep having fun anyway.

The tactical nuke would only be powerful enough to destroy 1-2 towns each.

Also, the zombies cannot be cumulative, in terms of actual physical bodies on the ground. The server FPS would grind to a halt.

This would work, however, with a time limit. Maybe 48-72 hours, forcing regular server resets. But this would go against the persistence idea that makes the mod so cool

Sounds good but the server hopping would happen all too often right before the missile hits. Doubt it's going to change.

No, this expression is related to hackers, not griefers.

Additionally you would have to see huge increases in available ammo in order for this to work, which means zombies would move even farther down on the care meter for most players. Our goal isn't killing zombies, it is surviving. Sometimes that involves killing zombies, but most of the time we are supposed to be avoiding them.

I also don't see how you are going to avoid people just logging off the server, and I don't think the goal is to get people to stop playing the game.

That's an interesting point. Perhaps it would be better that way anyway. The nukes blow up a few towns' date=' along with any survivors in the area, but does not wipe out the whole server.

Once enough zed are killed, the strikes stop, and players can come out of hiding.

*[NEW'] Bomb Shelter - Deployable structure that can be used to ride out nearby nuclear blasts (but not direct hits)

Also, the zombies cannot be cumulative, in terms of actual physical bodies on the ground. The server FPS would grind to a halt.

From what I understand, the changes coming in the next patch are going to dramatically increase the number of both players and zed allowed per server.

Again, I'm fairly confident that server hopping and DCing will not be part of the final game.
