skypig 139 Posted October 9, 2014 that's the great thing about forums, it keeps the nutty, vocal minority concentrated in a few places instead of wandering the internet with their "The End Is Neigh!" signs
CANUCKinNZ 108 Posted October 10, 2014 Here's the scary and beautiful thing about public tested games: A) Scary for two reasons: 1) Professional testers are out of luck and out of business with smaller projects where they could get the experience to work in a big company 2) The developers could realize the job is too big and grab the money and run B) Good for these: 1) The game gets a ton of bad testers (no offense) which plummets the testing quality for a bunch of things HOWEVER it allows for things such as balance and large-scale content to be done quickly and efficiently 2) The pressure is off for releasing the game as people can buy it to get their quick fix 3) The projects gets fund and is able to keep runningThey must still have internal testers pre public release though or even during right, right? I can't see this method stealing to many jobs from testers. If so them crap, I just took a test this week to be a software tester! I don't need a 12 year old stealing my job! CANUCKinNZ 108 Posted October 10, 2014 Oh I see what you did there you bad boy! Anyway Bohemia Interactive is here for over 10 years, I doubt they would stuff their pockets with money and just leave. As for trolls and whiners.....well you always will have some, that's just how the world is.Oh wait....what? I didn't say hummer......

No number of early access players is ever going to replace a proper QA department. Early access does provide some information that no QA department will ever produce on the other hand. For example stress testing on a large scale is something early access is perfect for.
igottapi4 1 Posted October 10, 2014 The point is - DayZ Standalone hasn't even been released yet. It's in Early Access Alpha, at least a year or two out from an actual release build. This is what people forget. How can you negatively criticize something that's not even at a release build yet and also the devs are keeping an eye/ear on what the community is asking for via Reddit, the forums, and also the Feedback Tracker?I think many people forget its an alpha. Personally it feels like I bought a game and Im getting free new stuff all the time. Cause lets be honest, games form the pass were fully done with maybe a glitch ot two if at that. Now they are released fulled of glitches since you can just update in the future or just forget about it after initial sell. Not much different than how DayZ is right now. A funtional game with some glitches that get fix fairly quickly. Parts of me really missed when there was no internet.
foxdie_01 121 Posted October 10, 2014 Its got to be a worrying that the dayz team are literally going to run out of money, if its going to take another 2 years to finish. Sure they'll be a small surge on the full release. But a game, based on almost 10 year old technology at the time, isn't really going to be that attractive given the what imagine will be slow ponderous death of the dayz marketing wheel. I guess this is the honest reason why they're going console, because simply put, theres no other way they could afford the continued development any other way without some light at the end of the tunnel.
Arm Of Kannon 9 Posted October 10, 2014 Let's see some statistics on the numbers of the "silent majority"/"vocal minority". If people are complaining it's because they like the game and want it to be better, or you know, they wouldn't be playing it at all. If they are asking for new features like vehicles w/ rocket launchers, that translates into "I'm excited and anticipating what will be available when the game is finished. I can hardly wait." The worst Bohemia could hope for (in my opinion) is people stop talking about the game, especially with games like H1Z1 coming out.

c00lface 66 Posted October 11, 2014 Dayz has ruined the early access concept for so many... I think it's a good thing in the end. I feel a bit sad for all the true indie devs tho
OmpaLompa 5 Posted October 11, 2014 I really don't understand some of the complaints about lack of upcoming content. To me it seems with the recruitment of a lot more staff new features and assets are getting put into experimental and stable every major patch. Vehicles were not even talked about a couple of months back yet we already have a model and mechanics on the near verge of going experimental. (end of the year I would assume) Considering what this game was 1/2 a year ago it has expanded leaps and bounds. I remember when the game wasn't much more than death match in electro using Glitched buildings and Mosin +m4 combos, with entire dupe brigades copying gear in full ttsko gear. Now no such thing exists anymore. If you feel that the game is getting nowhere just play something else for the near future, I took a few months off a while back and when I returned there was a seemingly gigantic amount of content added to mess around with. Things are speeding up people, don't get all mad that they cant do everything in a couple of weeks.
Weyland Yutani (DayZ) 1159 Posted October 12, 2014 So sure the creators and devs have made a butt load of money from this release already. But do you think if they could have seen the future or reaction that they have been getting from the whinging minority would they have done it this way again?I think the silent majority of people know how game development and testing works. But the majority of people on the forums are the loud minority who comment or complain the most. I am not sure if having the general public being alpha testers was the way to go.Whenever Hicks or Dean tweet anything it's almost a guarantee that within the first 5 responses someone's going to say when do I get my humvee with rocket launchers. It's got to wear on them. I'm sure they just move on from it but do you think they would have done more internal testing first if they knew the shitstorm of criticism they were going to get?If your involved in art, which I don't think you are….please don't take offense if you are as you might not be there yet…there is something I call the beautiful mistake. Mistakes happen and if you got the stuff, the energy gets redirected into something beautiful that you could have never thought of beforehand. It happens in all forms of art and the highest level of art is improvisation which is a testament to this anomaly. DayZ happened by accident and everybody and their mother said SA took too long and it would fail. Even Hall only projected about 350k sales in the timeframe it did 1M. If I was to guess, I don't think Bohemia thinks of DayZ as a boatload of money. Maybe a boatload of potential. DayZ hasn't made them rich…yet. Bohemia already has money. And lets be honest, compared to the big dogs, 2.5M in sales isn't much. DayZ will eventually make Bohemia a household name. Risk equals reward, its a universal principle. Nothing this big can be brainstormed in a board room…its not how things work. That should answer your initial question. As far as the rest, haters are going to hate…comes with the territory.
