LazlowRave 3 Posted October 4, 2014 Climbing a hill can be time consuming, but I'm not climbing a mountain here, a small hill and it slows me to a snails pace. I understand sprinting up a hill isn't consistent with real life, but it's current setting is a bit comical when the hill is small, and a zombie is right behind you.
Karmaterror 982 Posted October 4, 2014 I do agree with this, maybe even allow a sprint up inclines but depending on the grade it could sap hydration like crazy. While we wait though use the old mod trick and run diagonally to reduce the angle, sort of zig zag up the hill :)
gibonez 3633 Posted October 4, 2014 People fail to grasp just how steep those hills really are. If anything the game is quite generous at times for even allowing you to get up some of these super steep hills. Speed is not the problem we just need a different animation that better illustrates how steep the hills are when you enter walking mode. We don't want to end up with super unrealistic skyrim horse physics.
Baker. 1484 Posted October 4, 2014 -op is wrong- I think if I was running for my life I would manage to scale those small hills at more than a jog.

sachad 1016 Posted October 4, 2014 So make that a risk. But we should have at least the option to escape a zombie by going uphill.
Cpanther 221 Posted October 4, 2014 Already done in Experimental...it's different running speeds depending of how stiff the hill is...you only completely slow down in super stiff hills.

Than why at the same time zeds can run up those hills at full speed ? I can't run up them even as a fresh spawn so don't even bother with the gear weight argument.
Baker. 1484 Posted October 4, 2014 (edited) No what would likely happen is you break your ankle and or stumble.No. I live, have lived, grew up in an area almost geographically identical to Chernarus. I ran uphill plenty. Was I tired or out of breath at the top? You bet. But I did it all the same. Also the tripping and stumping is a downhill thing (done that lots too) plus it would be unheard of to "break" an ankle in those circumstances, although a very bad sprain would be a real possibility. And to be clear, I am saying you should be able to run up hills not pik kozlova Edited October 4, 2014 by Bakermensch
LazlowRave 3 Posted October 6, 2014 Regardless how far everyone decides to pick at the physics I can't help to notice they are not accurate to a point where its a tiny hill.

We don't want to end up with super unrealistic skyrim horse physics. Maybe a "scramble" animation would be cool, the speed would still have to go up slightly to make it look right, but it would givea visual explination for why your speed dropped. On the less steep ones id say jog only (some of these not so steep ones still slow us atm). So if you were scrabling, that's it, that's the fastest you would go, but if it just slows you to a jog, you should be able to push for a sprint at the cost of hydration. For the breaking your ankle thing, I feel that would be very reasonable going down steep hills. Maybe allow us to sprint, but some sort of randomised chance to fall and break your leg on a very steep decent , chance increased if its raining (eg slippy) :) No skyrim horse physics though for sure lol :) Edited October 6, 2014 by Karmaterror
gibonez 3633 Posted October 6, 2014 Yea the game now has physics right. Why not make the movement physics based. Add weight, acceleration, deceleration when moving forward and reverse. Have your character fall and trip if he attempts to sprint up steep hills just like gta 4. This way speed and movement is not tied to an ingame mechanic but the player himself has to make smart decisions when moving around the game. I can imagine this would also make the games traveling more fun as you are constantly having to assess how to traverse the environment.
