What happened with the Yellow Chain?

Recommended Posts

I haven't seen anything mentioned about it or if I have missed it, but we longer have the yellow and red chain on the screen indicating you when your connection with the server is having trouble. Right now when there is a reset you automatically get the "no message received.." right away.
Even though most of the time you would disconnect or the server restarted, there was this chance of coming back after a yellow chain, and if not at least it would soften the hit of the red message of the devil popping in the middle of your screen right away haha.

Any idea what happened with them?

Oh, that is a very astute observation... Shit. We have a free thinker; Bravo Foxtrot 1 this is ground patrol, we have a code 5, repeat, code 5 in General Discussion.

better question is why does the message say 'server hasn't recieved any messages for 30 seconds' when it hung up on you 5 or 10 minutes ago.

I believe the reason is because this chain also indicated when two network bubbles (everyone has a network bubble, to make it simpler you can call this a connection) were coming into contact with each other, in affect this means if you were smart like us you could tell if a player was near you just by seeing if you both had the red chain, so if me and my friend were in a house and we both got a red chain, we would know that most of the time this would mean someone was within a km of us.

In laymans terms it was being abused and was like spidy sense. You could just tell when danger was near so it is a good thing it is gone.

Its strange to hear that. I bought SA about 2-3 months ago, and Ive never seen a Red/Yellow chain on 1st or 3rd person Ive had both horrible and fast internet connections.

However on the MOD i still see the chains as per usual but ive never even seen their exsistance on SA - is it something you can change in the settings? because ive seen vids of people who get the chains, likewise those who lag like hell and dont get any chains / indicators

Or you could try comparing your bandwith with other players on the list (when they are not buffering on 87) and compare the distances. Doesn't work all the time, but it saved my ass a few times as well.

Honestly i did not think this worked, or at least i could never get it to work, too many random denominators to be accurate for me.

Well you can't accurately pinpoint someone's location with it, of course. But for me it always worked (most of the time) for evaluating wheter someone is in the same town as me etc. I don't know, maybe I was just lucky with it. *shrugs*

How then, is it if it is high or low, is it related to your ping, how have you been using it as my friend used to say something about it but i could never figure it out.

I always wondered if this was true. I've seen several youtube videos of players yelling to their buddy "Red chain, red chain!" And I never could figure out what that stupid thing meant. This makes sense though now.

Squads of 3 or more players would actually abuse this to tell which direction the person is, especially if you have at least 4. Front guy gets a red chain and noone else does, he's coming from the direction of the front guy (roughly 11, 12, or 1 o'clock). Right guy and rear guy get a red chain, you can tell someone is coming in from the 4-5 o'clock direction. I actually witnessed this before I realized it was a real thing and how it worked. A squad of 4 was coming down a road and I was up ahead observing them with binoculars when the front guy stopped and the other guys crouched, I could see the front guy pointing and I was thinking there's absolutely no way they saw me and could have known that I was up ahead, but they knew alright because of this very method. It was widely abused by clans who were aware of it.

I really hate that they are gone for the sole fact that when a server goes down, you don't know for the longest time. Why does it take so long to tell you?

Yes, a small squad could easily triangulate enemy positions.

Well unless you have a different game or one that has been altered compared to everyone else who is playing legit i can't possibly see how that is the case as it has been removed completely, i get a red chain when the server resets and that is it.

Obviously I'm not playing an altered game. I'm on the same serves and version as everyone else. I don;t know. I was near green mountain area yesterday heli hunting and I got a yellow chain for a split second. I then got a red chain like you said right at server reset.

And of course you say I'm wrong an that they've been "completely removed" and then say how you get red chains at reset so yeah I guess they aren't completely removed ;)
