Which items are persistent?

Recommended Posts

Thanks for your valued input, I was aiming for his question of replacing a tent with a backpack as a storage device on a persistent server which has been touched upon. We are all human and make mistakes and as far as I have seen from testing and input seems to be inconsistent and I was under the impression through the current builds that said items specific would despawn and or all interior content of that item would despawn if left based on reports like this http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=17470.  Unfortunately we are not able to pick apart server files as one would with the mod until they are available and give an answer without simply testing it on a server to see what happens multiple times to receive a consistent outcome.  If you would like to post a video of your findings with consistency please do. My answer was based on my experiences which led me to the conclusion in addition to the builds listed issues of persistence corruption which has just recently been touched upon in the hotfix which means subject to change.  Being red does not always mean right it just means I am willing to help if ever and whenever when I can, if this has upset you please report me to the local authorities so they may properly lock me in a dungeon and deliver my lashings.

Id like to apologize, my tone was inappropriate. The only one needing lashings is me. You do good work.

From my groups tests Backpacks are lasting at least three days.

Tents and backpacks 're-arrange' themselves on server restart, if you have several large or odd shaped items it can cause them to not fit into the loot tetris and be deleted.

Vest-ception will delete clothing in tents/backpacks on server restart.

Backpacks are possibly unstable, items eventually vanish. This could be tied to a timer where players must interact with the items once every X amount of time, sitll testing.

Items, except guns, left on the ground vanish after a short time. Guns seem to last much longer. At least 2 days.

Ill post more as testing continues. There are only one or two servers that we have found for first person with working persistence. A good way to check is to just remember where one item is and if the server restarts go back and see if it is still there. If it is not or completely new loot has spawned there is no persistence on that server.

Again, I apologize and regret my tone. Its something I need to work on. I am passionate about the game and ... no excuses I will do better.

So its hit and miss i guess.

Not really, I would say more miss than hit. Tents ultimatley disappear which is full of miss. I knew tents would be an issue as the mod had issues with tents as far as 1.7.3 or somewhere around there. What are they on now, 1.8.2?

Weyland, aside from restart count how long in hours did the backpacks stay on ground? Did any disappear or did you not wait longer than 24 hours before picking them up? Also, was there any items taken/removed/shuffled through the backpack while it was laying there?

Additionally, what was this event? A ritual sacrifice??

Honestly, I couldn't tell you. Once the event was over we left the server. So all the guns and backpacks that was left behind…I've no data on that.

We had two people filming the event which turned out to be harder than expected especially with the advanced weather being bugged. The film might not make the light of day, but if it does I'll upload it and share with the community here via the gallery.

Further testing has reviled that most of the item dissapearing seems to be related to one of two things, loot-ception storage or the loot-tetris fail. I just checked in on a backpack that has been on the ground for about a week now, it is still in existence and the items within it are all still good.

However the containers seem to have moved by them self ever so slightly.

Further information: It still seems to be unstable. Sence the hot fix the servers I was playing on take longer to come back up, if they come back up at all, and seem to crash with increasing frequency.

No one to oversee the one who oversee's the other mods, so tell me exactly what if i was not happy with your conduct and wanted a new community support type character how would one such as me for example but not limited to me go about getting such a thing done.???

This is a serious question so i would like a swift responce.

Yours truly Dave and Jake.

As far as I have tested, tents, backpacks and bullet boxes persist indefinitely, but the items inside might disappear due to the sorting algorythm on a server restart. Also any container stored in a tent (clothes/backpacks/etc.) will lose items within them.

The sorting algorythm seems to want to stack smallest items first, and almost always loses tall items (axes, fishing rods etc.)

I have questions regarding the item visibilty - is there any way at all to restore the item visibility on a full tent?

And why is an M4 the same size as a Mosin?

I'm trying a test today with a backpack that isn't completely full. My guess is that the items will all persist if they can be reshuffled in any configuration and still fit.

OK I found a way to make the invisible items re appear, if the tent is absolutely full.

While looking at the inventory of the tent (which appears empty) click and drag the actual tent icon at the top to the left hand side of the inventory box where it highlights green, then let go. The tent will jump positions and everything inside will then be visible.

OK, persistence test results: dropped a bag under a tree, but it got stuck in the tree and was unretrievable. After several minutes of trying to receive the bag, the server crashed, and the bag was gone when it restarted.

So either the server crash reset the database, or the server did not have persistence enabled.

I (well not just me :)) have had 5 tents, 3 hunter backpacks & 1 bullet box persist since the 0.49 hotfix to today, on a server that restarts every 2 hours. The server also follows real time, after every restart the start time is incremented by 2 hours.

Since being careful about stacking items smallest at the top, and not putting container items containing items in the tent inventory, and avoiding putting tall items like fishing rods or axes in them, no items have disappeared either.

To test whether or not a server has persistence enabled, check and remember loot spawns that are unlikely to be picked up (badly damaged items, away from fresh spawn locations, etc.) then the next time the server restarts, if those same items are still there - the server has working persistence.

I do not oversee anyone, I'm what you would consider the lowest staff position within this forum elsewhere like the bug tracker is where I am used.  That said you could report me to the forum administrator for misconduct and or a forum moderator if you were unhappy with me in which case forum side could be dealt with as I am for the most part another forumite over here.  If you were unhappy with me in the bug tracker which is where someone in my position spends your time you could report to an administrator over there.  There are not any replacement community supports in the future as far as I know of forum side. I do not see it growing as our job has evolved since the mod when we use to run the public hive and assist with servers and fix most of the troubleshooting.  The one I used to answer to has not been around for quite a long time as he has taken on a full work load elsewhere in life.  But ultimately forum side you can report us to forum staff i.e. anyone in blue or green.  Hope this somewhat answers your question as it is hard to answer as there has been so much change.  Not sure if this qualifies as a swift response but if you wanted faster you would need to PM. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/153786-forum-rules-roles-and-guidelines/

Best Regards,

Steak.

Thank you the for the answer, just intrigued to see how it all works on a forum and who does what, i guess most forums would be similar as this is my first.

The bag was 'in' the tree. Cutting down the tree will let you interact with it again.
