I'm pretty much going to shoot at anyone that tries following me.

Recommended Posts

I've learned enough from previous experiences, now the only thing I do these days is hold people at gunpoint whilst giving them items.

Whenever I'm with my American friend he's generally the first contact player while I have gun sights on the player from a distance in case he tries to attack, we came up with this strategy after we got fire squaded in Berezino, we both got easily captured and shot due to our close proximity.

Since we started this strategy I've had a position to shoot the people he's encountered every time, however most of them have been friendly.

And we've only died while separated.

Me and my "Band of survivors" (I like not to refer to us as a group or clan, we just survive together xD) have a very similar strategy, but since we have about 5 of us, we send two people to make first contact, the other 3 spread out at different angles to get better shots (Or in the case of no firearms, get ready for a good ambush position should the opportunity provide itself). We keep our distance and tell them if they get too close we won't hesitate to shoot. Usually this keeps people away, except for the "Nothing-to-lose" freshies. But keep up the good work, stay safe, and stay warm :)

I tend to be a trusting fool.

I helped out a new spawn as he was being attacked by 3 zeds and he only had a crowbar, so I took care of them with my axe. After I was left bleeding, but I asked this dude if he needed anything, (I had a backback with a ton of food and a magnum + mosin and a bit of ammo) he said that I needed to heal, and as it happened I had no rags or bandages, so he put down a rag on the floor. I took it and started to use the rag, as I did this he crowbarred my head, then I was dead.

Sad thing is I've had to adjust my play style to what the op stated. I'm tired of helping people only to get axed/crowbar in the back, which sucks because I did enjoy helping people but not anymore. I will still do the traveling junk salesman/trader but I'm gonna have to start popping people if they follow me. Like last night, I was showing a player how to fish and what an ashwood tree looks like and such and as I'm doing this he tries to punch my motorcycle helmet so I beat him to death with my retractable baton. He then goes into a sob story about how he just needed stuff that I had, so I told him all he had to do was ask me for anything except for a gun and I would have given it to him.

Well....so what? It's the apocalypse motherfuckers! Cheers for the can of beans, but everything you have works better.

It's great you wanna help people, but don't complain that you can't trust them.

Good strategy OP, that's usin' yer noggin

Sorry if it seemed like I was complaining, its all part of the game. Its just disappointing to try to help peeps and they have other plans for your gear. Oh well, maybe I will give the bandit life a try because I've been a hero so long. It will he difficult for me to adjust but being on the wrong end of a situation gets old real fast

Thus you control the situation and the outcome.

All the people complaining 'but i WAS FRIENDLY AND HE KILLED ME', do not do this. They are easy targets, the low hanging fruit of dayz.

This pointman-overwatch strategy is also effective when looting military bases and high traffic towns. Some of my more boneheaded deaths were the result of oogling over loot with nobody watching my/our back. The way I see it, if we're going to take the time to travel to these out of the way military installations, there's no need to rush through them as quickly as possible. One guy looting while his partner or his team cover him just makes a whole lot more sense to me.

Good on you for adapting to the environment instead of giving up on player interaction all together.

When playing without my group (by myself) I've taken to a survivalist style of play.  I get myself geared to a point I can hunt for my food and have a gun that can shoot long distances.  I then traverse the map by forest instead of road and take my sweet time eyeing the town I want to pillage by far, ensuring there is no movement.  Last night it took me a good 30 minutes to check out Novy Sobor but it was worth it. From one angle I saw somebody running through the long houses and as I circled around I watched another dude come in from the police building side.  Keeping an eye out I watched as two strangers met and then one wandered off towards stary with all his new stuff he got from the corpse he left behind.

Once I knew all was clear I swooped in got some food and ammo that was left and was free to hit the buildings I needed to keep stocked up.

Moral of this and OPs stories I think is this is not cll of duty keep your eyes open and if you have extra pairs of eyes that can watch keep them far away so you don't look like a group.

I learned everything from the first days in the mod. I don't get surprised, if someone that I just helped will try to shoot me or knock me down with their bare fists while I'm eating or looking for apples. I always know that shit like that is typical in Chernarus. The only thing that do surprise me, is that there is people out there who has still not learned this. First rule is "Never trust anyone, everyone is an asshole and want you dead". Only take risk if you doesn't bother you to get killed. I usually test people and lay out traps to see if I can trust them. I've met 14 people lately, 4 of them I still have contact with, 7 of them was friendly too. 2 freshspawns tried to kill me, I killed one and let the other go... I was a freshspawn with basic gear and axe I was at NEAF ATC. I noticed it had been someone there recently. I say hello, is there anyone there? I'm friendly. I don't get any answers. Suddenly someone shoots after me with a pistol but misses. Then he charge at me with a fireaxe. We dance in a circle near ATC and I hit him. Now he is bleeding, I run to the airstrip and keep him at distance. I try to bleed him out. It doesn't take long time before I realize that I'm too impatient. I turn around and swing with my axe. I hit him in the head, so he fall down on the ground. He don't have much. But I take the little he had and heads to Novo. Which I will later get KOS.

So far I've never got killed by anyone that I've been interacting with, there been a couple of bad attempts, but that's it. Only KOS in SA which has happened a few times in places like Balota, NWAF, Berezino, Nova and Svetlo which was expected never outside those places. Never got robbed tho. Been playing for 80 hours.
