DayZ trading zone

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow survivors.

After another unsuccessful trade today, ending with my death, I wonder if it's worth to discuss about something like a safe zone which there are on the Mod-Epoch servers. In general the idea behind this is simple and can be summarized pretty fast:

- The biggest aspect of this game should be surviving and teamplay. Right now surviving is easy and teamplay is not necessary unless you want to check for high traffic spots or want to be a Bandit. However, I expect this game to be more team-dependant once vehicles and possible bases are introduced, as well as various other things that might come up which make surviving harder.

Following this thought, I really wish for a trading zone within DayZ SA. As it's very time consuming to get all the nice things to make surviving (or whatever playstyle you prefer) easier and considering the randomness of itemspawns and the actual luck based factor of people running by precious and rare loot, it would make the world easier if people are able to trade without worries. It's a stupid feeling if you trade with someone and always have to worry about beeing shot, no matter if the trade is successful or not.

There is hardly any way to punish actual gearscammers that shoot traders for their own profit. They simply create new forum accounts, add some avatars and do a few spamposts over a few days.. once that happened you're pretty unable to see if a person is honest or not. With the introduction of a safe-zone you would be able to shut down all these nasty people and make life for people that want to socialize by trading easier.

The biggest con about this idea is the idea about the place itself. How do you realize a location like that, without making it vulnerable to abuses like people hiding in there or camping the entrances on high population servers.. I'm open for idea's at this point, so feel free to contribute in any ways.

was this post related to the one in the trading post thread w/ dreypa?

Edit: After reading your post, why not just link the forum avatar with a steam ID/your character in game. So if you want to create a new forum profile, you will have to buy another DAYZ account. As well we should have a negative feedback post button; opposite of the beans. Such as "You have my bullets". This will also help cut down people's bad posting.

Not directly a result to his action today but after I talked with a few of my trusted traders and listened to their thoughts, I decided to bring this up in general. I guess them killing me today just made me think about it again, so why not suggest it and look out for pro's/con's.

do what I did.  (see sig below)

make that jerk famous, and he won't have a chance to screw anyone else.  true he might change his name, but you do what you can.

doing what I'm doing also makes the trustworthy ones known too.

@Sniper-Wolf: This would help out to figure out people that abused it once, true. Kind of reminds me on the scamming system in old d2jsp forums.. However, this would only help pre-emptive against people that broke the "codex" once and considering the increasing population, the amount of people abusing it would also increase at some point. We all know how much time it takes to get very rare loot and I wonder if we all want to possibly lose it to someone "unknown". I rather want to check if there is room for an ingame solution to make scamming this way impossible.

@Red_Ensign: Yea, we all can do it, but kinda the same like my response to Sniper.. you never know how new people tick and if they kill you or not.. It helps the trusted traders and 2 of the 4 in your sig also belong to my trusted list, however it turns out the same way.. try to trade with a new or unknown person can result in your own death. Trev lost his RAK73 last patch to a person that is well-known in this forum and his item was actually very very very rare back then. Quite a few people fake to have such rare items and ask for a trade.. mostly it's the unknown people and what do you do then? Well.. risk or no risk, that's the question..

The DEVs already clarified, that they want to keep DayZ as open as possible.

There will be no NPCs, and probably no "safe-zones", since this would break the "sandbox-game"-theme, I think, because it guarantees some kind of 100%-safety.

(Safe-trade-zones could be something for modders later down the road, I imagine :D )

actually I think that was a trade with me...  it was night and I couldn't find him, and he ran into some other guys thinking they were me.  he got killed and I got shot at but I got away.  it was a total mess.  he did say something after about losing an rak, so yeah I think that was it.  been trying to re-establish trust with him ever since - even offered him his tent back (it was a 2-part trade).

(the server and trade locations were his choice, btw - I woulda done it more off the beaten path)

Back to the topic at hand: Trading with unknown people with the possibility of being scammed or back stabbed is realistic as you would not buy a diamond ring from someone in a back alley vs buying something from Tiffanys. Who would you trust more? The only way we can defend or pro-actively trade IMHO is to:

A. trade only with those others can vouch for.

B. have them come into teamspeak/raidcall/etc to actually talk to them and make sure they are not coordinating with someone else (or make it harder to anyway). And if they refuse, then they are basically not trustworthy. It is not that hard to run/download teamspeak or some other program in the background for ten minutes while you trade. If they start lagging for it, it shouldnt matter unless they have intentions of killing you.

C. Ask/hire a 3rd party trustworthy stranger to watch your back while you trade and if it turns into a firefight, that person can help you out. I would be willing to provide security if anyone ever asked for it. I tend to be only hostile to people I meet randomly in DayZ but if it is to trade or help someone on the forums, I stick to my word (for what its worth). I believe in making my intentions clear as I am not a fan of lying and betrayal.

D. Choose a good location. Or pick the right server. For example someone literally gifted me his Regular Server m4A1 by dropping it in a location in a 0 pop server and after he left, I went to pick it up.

E. Have a friend hold onto all of your crap on a persistence enabled server and have the other guy do the same. If he comes with anything other than the item, then you run

yeah that name did come up.  but he unfriended me afterward, so I think the incident made him wonder about me too (because it happened while dealing with me).

Since even honest traders start small at some point and need to gear up their own reputation I would support something like trade windows. Maybe it would be possible to tie up stored items within tents with the steam-inventory and that way beeing able to trade them without meeting ingame.. just like trading skins in CS:GO for example.
