agouti 105 Posted September 23, 2014 You guys are doing it wrong, instead of trying to hit the zombie where the crosshair is, swing the axe a few times and visually assess the path the axe head takes through the air. Familiarize yourself with it. Next, align your axe-head, the path it travels, into the body of the zombie. It should collide with the body of the zombie. You can't just use the cursor, it's not a gun. Once you realize this, it becomes very easy to kill nearly anything. However, it should have a longer reach. And the weaker weapons like the crowbar and machete should do far more damage.

Again, in .48 zombies were easy to kill, you aimed and they went down. Now, in .49, you aim, nothing happens half the time. I've strafed after side-stepping, assessed the path of the axe and adjusted accordingly but still get very random results.
smoq2 221 Posted September 25, 2014 (edited) It is fairly easy to become at least proficient with most melee weapons after some practice. My problem is that the system is still overwhelmingly clunky. Games like Dead Island would be total garbage if they used melee mechanics like in DayZ. I know that I can't expect a system like in e.g. Dead Island or Dark Messiah to ever be in DayZ, however I believe there is much more room to improve. I'm fairly positive though, that the current implementation is scrap worthy (by modern game standards). Edited September 25, 2014 by retro19
