  1. 1. M1 Garand should be...

    • not in the game.
    • in the game, spawning as much as mosin, sks and such...
    • a rare unicorn.

I'm aware that in certain countries, you are not allowed to own military caliber guns, and so slight derivations are often necessary. In the Us the only requirement is no full auto, even short barreled rifles are allowed for a measly $200 tax. That being said, many commercial rifles are either of questionable reliability (for the semi-autos], or are quite expensive. For this reason in the Us, there is quite an overlap between military rifles and "hunting" rifles to the point where it becomes more or less pointless to try to distinguish the two. A great deal many bolt action rifles are blatant copies of the original mauser design, which was originally created as a military weapon. The remington 700, one of the most prolific hunting rifles in america, when chambered for the 7.62 nato and accurized, is called the m24 (a sniper rifle]. The BAR by browning (not the military rifle, the civilian repeating rifle] is quite expensive, and in most cases, it's just easier to repurpose an old military rifle due to cost.

Many of the cheaper american bolt rifles are really designed to be used only once or twice a year as well. With all this being said, either be prepared to shell out some cash or just buy old military stuff.

Instead of getting an older (the older ones were better] remington 700, I picked up a k31 for 1/3 of the price. It suits me just fine.

You know there are quit a few good bolts other than the 700. the Winchester Model 70 is good, My dad has a Steyr in 25-06. Ruger M77 might be a good choice for DayZ as it uses the upcoming 30-06 cartridge.

The COD shooters rather see something like this instead.

The cod kiddies would absolutely hate the m1 garand, no accessories no acogs or silencers for that m1 garand just iron sgiths.

I'll allow that in the SA if it has a waffle maker attachment and the bipod legs are 48" purple rubber dildos.

Following your logic store shelves should be full of food, houses full of clothes and knifes and can openers, working cars everywhere.

They are not, meaning all those things where taken by someone already, so were the military guns. Which is the scenario we have here, events some considerable time after the society collapse.

Another problem is that it's easier to find several 75 drum mags than one mag for a handgun.

Food is eaten, gone off etc. Guns do not go stale and nor does ammunition (well not as far as it's relevant in dayz).

I personally rather see 9.3x64 brenneke as the civilian big game hunting round. Even over the .30-06.

The 9.3x64 brenneke offers really unique ballistics that would help separate it over 7.62x54r and .308 win.

High power yet a rainbow trajectory.

So unlike the other calibers the 9.3x64 would be a high power low range hunting round ensuring the players get close to their target before engaging.

Case is roughly the size of a 30-06 except fatter. everything about the 9.3 is a little beefier but not much difference i can see.

Big difference is in the trajectory.

The 9.3x64 has a rainbow trajectory and uses heavy bullets with bad ballistic coefficients.

Essentially the 9.3x64 is a 100 m to 500m heavy hitting big game round able to take out just about anything on 2 or 4 feet pretty much a safari round.

It shoots out a 300 grain bullet at 2400 fps.

It would fit all the criteria that would make it a great civilian big game caliber while setting it apart from the other in game calibers due to its trajectory and unique ballistics.

- Not an inherently accurate round

- Hard hitting

- Limited range

- Low weapon capacities

- Popular in Russia and eastern bloc nations as a hunting round and even adapted into the SVDK

I'd like to see more auto rifles but devs seemed to avoided to add them

I like this. Less spraying and praying, and more attempts at accurate gun fights. A misplaced shot could be life or death with a mosin/sks/CZ, but if you miss with an AKM with a full drum mag, you've still got a whole lot more rounds left.

Looked up the class names for the cz 550 and got this.

5x_22_LR_17_HMR

that is the magazine name but it does not fit the in game description.

The in game description is the following.

CZ 550 is an improved Mauser 98-type hunting rifle. It features solid head lugs, fixed ejector, claw extractor, single-set trigger, square bridge dovetailed receiver and classic-styled walnut stock. This weapon uses 9.3x62 mm cartridges and features an additional optical scope.

I guess it is not the 9.3x64 brenneke but instead 9.3x62 another super popular large game hunting round.
