ThreeDots 4 Posted September 9, 2014 At this moment there is many features/activities player can do (and more are coming), but not everybody reads changelogs or wiki to know how to do that. Now imagine new player coming into game knowing literally nothing. It would be nice if game had possibility to learn players how to craft a bow/arrows, how to fish, some medical basics, (later repairing vehicles), etc... If some of the books were readable (something like that diary in the mod) and were describing those activities with good explanation and nice pictures, it would be an awesome way to keep player in game instead of searching wiki, learning him about everything in dayz and it would give another use to books (and books are kinda useless right now) The names of books can be pretty diverse, but simply for example: First Aid (medical guide), Surviving in jungle (hunting), Scout guide (some basics for crafting, fishing, idk)... and many more can be created There could even exist books with list and description of weapons used on Chernarus and weapons used by western countries (heli crashes) I have so many ideas now what to put into books. What do you think?

Trizzo 632 Posted September 9, 2014 When various teams add content, such as the new hunting/animal dev team, I hope books go in that are tied it probable locations and real biology. Pigs in gullys, water sources, deer active at dusk/dawn.But impro waste land surivival guides could make their way into circulation as notes.Once item persistence is in I'm starting geo caching competitions with way points and grid references....watch this space :)I suspect a lot of user content when persistence happens. blitzz92 7 Posted September 9, 2014 Let's expand and spawn bambies with flashlight, battery and a survival book. The book would teach you how to make a fishing rod, a hunting bow, arrows and a campfire. Also woukd teach you how to fish, hunt and prepare food for cooking. Evil Minion 943 Posted September 9, 2014 I don't think players should start with too many useful items. You should have to find nearly everything. Even the flashlight is almost a little much - it's a little help for freshspawns at night. Spawning players with items would cause them to value life even less than before. Also being able to find all information written on books you can find on the map cripples the exploration part of the game and making these books too common also borders handholding. So informational books should not cover all possible subjects (only the more complicated basics), be quite rare and of course they should be written in character ("If you feel like your body is about to burst you should stop eating because otherwise you will most likely throw up." instead of "If the stuffed state turns orange stop eating."). blackberrygoo 1416 Posted September 9, 2014 I really like this idea ! It totally enables books to be useful and not just for fires !! We don't need people starting off with books though , they are everywhere and in my opinion there should be less "Dracula" and "old testaments" around and be filled in with these helpful survival guides ..Actually keep Dracula I sometimes carry that around for good luck ;) . I definitely agree with this form books should be written. The exploration part is nice, but to be honest I would not cut the information value of books anyway. In my case for example, when they added fireplace I didn't know how to make them, but I didn't go to forest and just try combine things, cut trees or something like that... I just went to wiki and searched for that.Finding out everything I need to combine to make stupid fireplace without wiki or some kind of other tutorial would take many many boring hours. rybec 339 Posted September 10, 2014 I'd enjoy the developers making some little contest maybe of writing books to include in the game as guides. To prevent it from being added due to someone's name they shouldn't include credit to anyone in the game but there'd be issues of things like plagiarism if that happened.Maybe a little side-project for the developers, if they have any bush experience that is.
