I thought you couldn't track players?

My friends and I were playing last night and we all received some friend request from the same guy on steam telling us to join his clan. I thought it was weird because I thought there was no way to check players steamid from in game?

This would also explain why people say hackers followed them to a different server.

Was this guy a hacker, or has this happened to anyone else?

 

and no our in game names weren't the same as our steam names either.

I had exactly the same story, me and my friend got friend requests after we had a chance of asking about the steamid. I would find it hard those guys to be hackers, though. And I'd like to know how to do it, the other day a friendly guy gave me his id, but there were 8.5 thousand nicks like his...

if you open the steam overlay in the game and select "view players" it will display all the steam IDs on the server you are on.
