Ability to label gear with pen

I am currently carrying 3 SMERSH packs and each one serves its own purpose.  One is for ammo, one is for medical, and one is for food.  If I don't regularly access them I often forget which is which and end up having to view the contents of each one, which is slightly annoying.

 

I think it would be nice if we could use the pen to label certain gear so that you could know where everything is at a glance.  I know in my personal bugout bag I use a marker to label certain things.  Here is a mockup of the idea...

Side note: on the hill to the south of the barracks in Dichina I must have accidentally dropped a SMERSH pack containing an ammo can filled with 300 rounds 5.56 and a couple full 5.56 mags.  First come, first served.

I read on one Dayz wiki that such ability was planned.

Nice, thanks for the heads up.  I didn't realize they were planning on adding this feature.

 

PS: I'm sad about losing my packs.  So much work for nothing.  #DayZprobz

This is an excellent idea OP.  I was just thinking the same with regards to the yellow protector cases.  Really hoping they give us the ability to label them.  

 

One thought, especially with regards to the protector cases, would be to "craft" a label by combining/using a piece of duct tape with the protector case, giving you a strip of duct tape on the case which can later be removed.  

 

The next step would then be to use a pen to write on the duct tape on the case to use it as a label which can be seen in your inventory.

 

This would be especially helpful once persistent storage works better as people begin to store more items in tents and bases.

Yeah man, I completely agree.  All of that sounds awesome and would make things much easier to organize.

You should be able to make flimsy makeshift bayonets with duct tape and a kitchen knife (wouldn't be as good as a real bayonet holder but it could work). As well as use them to pad your hands to protect against infected and various other crafting ideas.

That makeshift bayonet was also a suggestion of mine :P

 

Well, it was more of attachments in general.. Bayonets, flashlights, etc.  I'll try to find the link!

Well something needs to be done. Ductape is one of the most useless utility items currently in the game. Should have a few uses by now at least.

Yes, yes, and yes.  Should be able to add a piece of duct tape to most items to label them.  And should always have the ability to remove and discard the label.

Why would you use smersh backpacks to store gear? They take up 9 slots and only hold 8. Don't vests work better for storage? 

Maybe you just happened to run across them and haven't found any vests? I'm just wondering.

I like the idea of labeling things.

 

BTW, don't get attached to those packs in packs though.  Pretty sure backpacks/vests/etc besides the actual containers like protector cases/ammo crates/med kits aren't supposed to be able to be stored in each other like that.  They removed it at one point, and it was only recently reimplemented, I could be wrong but I think it's a bug.

I easily agree it's a great idea. I also thought of such a thing today. 

You know what it's like finding a weapon your friend wants and manage to get it to him, would be cool to make an inscription, "To ******, from *****, Happy Birthday". etc

I like the idea BUT...can it be implemented in the OPS envisoned way ? This whould require some texture work i guess....

OR if they are clever they allow labeling that only YOU can see in your inventory :)
