Idle Animations

Recommended Posts

**Before I begin I'd like to apologise if something like this has already been thought of**

My idea here is basically to implement the animations you see your character do in the main menu, into the game. Meaning that it's a timed idle, if your character doesn't move for some time, as in the menu, he will do an idle animation (Sneezing into his palms, kicking the dirt, putting the gun on his shoulder, etc.)

Or, perhaps it should be something that you will press to happen. We've already got the whole row of F's bound to different animations, maybe bind one to create one of these random idle animations?

This is coming from a guy's perspective who likes roleplay, don't know what everyone else will think.

This is completely unnecessary. This is a simulator, not "The War Z". In this game you have to make your animations, you shake your head, you draw your finger, you sit, your trips to the character. If there was an animation, the other players would never know looking at that place you exactly. And part of the fun of the game you can interact esque your 100% with the players. If now when we are in an emotional moment instead of looking down our pj is making a strange put an animation would take all the fun.

Sorry for my English. I'm Spanish xD

I'm really sorry but I couldn't comprehend 70% of what you just said, though it seems like you see this as a negative thing, although I don't see how this will turn the game into "The War Z". perhaps you don't understand what I'm trying to say.

What I'm suggesting here is that if you stand idle with your character long enough, your character will perform one of the several animations that exist in the main menu. (i.e this:

)

Now, take this animation from the main menu, and put it inside the game. I think that one of these random animations, depending on what weapon you have, should play after either a certain amount of time, or activate it by pressing an unbound F (F1, F2, F3 etc.)

As I also stated is that I was unsure about the public's reaction to this, to some, you included, it may seem as an unnecessary and pointless feature, but from an RP lovers perspective, this would be a dream.

Also, I love the sneezing into palms animation and the stretching animation your character does if you don't have a gun equipped in the main menu. Just putting that out there.

Honestly I feel the gun on shoulder should be like the surrender as in you press once and it stays until pressed again also letting you move at a walking pace, would be good for people who carry 2 weapons to show "I'm not being hostile" by shouldering there weapon.

Animations when you press a button to activate them, fine. But I have no wish for animations the char simply does because I am idly sitting in a tree at the nwaf trying to figure out, if it is safe to go on or not. Movement can mean death in such situations.

Either way, I don't think more animations are absolutely neccessary at this point, low priority as far as I am concerned, nice to have.

If your character doesn't move for some time, as in the menu, he will do an idle animation (Sneezing into his palms, kicking the dirt, putting the gun on his shoulder, etc.)

Rule #1 for not being seen: DO NOT MOVE!!!

So when somebody is hiding, observing or camping somwhere, it is essential that the character doesn't move. When the character then suddenly starts waving around with his gun (or whatever), this could be fatal!!! So a clear NO from my side.

I guess even you would be mad if somebody finds you because of an idle animation.

I don't get your point, what are you trying to tell me?

The activate an animation by pressing a button already exists, so the only new thing would be an animation to put a weapon on your shoulder but this topic is about IDLE animations.

Like I said, if characters in DayZ have idel animations it would suck for hiding, observing, camping or anything where you don't move to be unseen...

this is a terrible idea. first off there is already a large number of f button animations. secondly you can press space to lower your weapon. no need to shoulder it. if i dont trust you i would be an idiot to shoulder my weapon. also the idle idea... if im hiding its probably for a reason. besides even if you are roleplaying... if it plays random animations then it might not coincide with the roll you are playing. again making you look stupid. back to shouldering. here is a scenario. im masked up and out to take your food and ammunition. i approach you and am by myself. so instead of yelling threats i raise my gun and ask if you are friendly. instead of using your mic you shoulder your gun.... well..... thanks for the food and ammo hope you didnt have too many hours in on this one.

No, haha! I'm not only talking about the 'putting weapon on shoulder' idle animations. All the idle animations you see your character do in the main menu, I suggest that you bind an 'F#' to do a random one, thus removing the fear of moving if you're idle for too long, you get me now?

This would be very rich for RP purposes, for example, if you're standing around a fire with some friends, you don't have a weapon equipped, you press the bound 'F#' key (F1, F2, F3 <--- an unbound F#) and your character stretches his arms or sneezes into his palms.

Other example, you're standing around a fire with some friends and you have an SKS in your hands, you press the bound F# for these idles and your character will play an animation similar to one of the several that exists in the main menu (Kicking the dirst, checking his rifle, putting it on his shoulder).

The animations we have from F1-F9 are all static animations wave, surrender, sit hush, facepalm. If you spend some time in the main menu and just look at your character you will know what I'm talking about.

Guys, I think a lot of you have me confused, and I apologize as it may be me not explaining myself clearly.

There are LOADS of these 'idle animations' in the main menu if you just let your character stay there before you click any of the buttons. I was either suggesting that your character will do these animations if you stand still for long enough (which didn't seem to popular even if I stated the other option).

We've still got a few F#'s unbound so I suggest to make the last F# (F12?) to do a RANDOM animation depending on what weapon (if any) you're holding. Who knows, I can just see this expand to the point of your character doing animations depending on his health/mood. If he's got a broken arm, maybe if you press F12 he'll grab his arm and look at it painfully, if you're tired maybe he will wipe some sweat off his forehead. You know, the possibilities here are endless. But I hope I've gotten my point accross and cleared up any confusion.

Ok so I think I got it completely wrong. So you don't want any idle movement inside the game?
