boonaroony 10 Posted August 17, 2014 Hi guys, I have been off day z for a few months vowing not to play til they fix the zombies jumping through walls thing. Said at the time appreciate we are in alpha but this particular bug drove me nuts - is this fixed yet? I cant even face loading the game if this is still going on! :) I totally expect the "it's alpha dude get over it what did u expect?" thing so bonus points to whoever gets in with it first :) sorry if this has been covered elsewhere are on the forums. I find it insanely annoying. It happens every time I draw aggro when inside a building. And zombies do clip through walls, it's just harder for them to do so. It just frustrates me that something I consider so fundamental to the realism of the game has not been sorted, but they are fixing animations and adding new crafting/new weapons etc. I would find it cool if a zombie could smash doors or windows making it not totally safe to hide out in a building but the clipping is a massive issue in my opinion. It took the devs 1 year to recognize that they need a new engine to fix clipping zombies, lights through walls...So you can't even guess how long it's going to take them to make a proper engine. Ben_uk 24 Posted August 17, 2014 Well, a zomb clipped through a wall today when I was looting a building (with only 1 door), so it had to come through the only entrance which I was facing. I call it how I see it. When 95% of the zombies who rush the building I'm in and successfully make it to the same floor I'm on without any way to gain access isn't nonsense. I see them go through walls a lot less but I can't go 5 minutes without seeing an aggro zed NOT go through a wall. The fact that you think you are safe because of the navmesh makes it even more fucking annoying when you start getting hit by a broken zombie who just ghosted through a tent, wall, fell through stairs. What I mean is I see a lot of different behavior of zeds like them going around more of the walls and fences. However, there are still many instances where zeds can ghost through walls and floors, stairs.... Etc. Its just as annoying as before or worse since you think the navmesh is a reality..... And then a zed just pops behind you through the wall. Its embarrassing that after 9 months zombies are still broken. It means that they'll go through the doorway. Sometimes when the door is closed too. I guess that you won't always SEE them going through the doorway, if a few updates get lost between the server and the client. I'd say that 10% of the time I see a zombie go through a doorway it'll have one shoulder inside the door frame. Anyhow, the zombie behavior is definitely changed for the better. They follow you up stairs, run around or through houses to get to you and so on - that's the nav mesh stuff in play. That doesn't mean that zombies are working well yet. They still have plenty of things about them that are just placeholders. Frankly I find the zombie-sliding-backwards-while-attacking-hitting-someone-behind-it way more annoying than the wall glitching ever was. If them glitching through walls a few months back was so annoying for OP, I think he should probably wait till the zombie radar sight has been replaced with a proper stupid-zombie behavior. But you got to admit, the devs are really poorly organized. :facepalm: If you had any idea what you where talking about, you would know that the "new engine" was planned from the very beginning.And its not a new engine, its a branch of the RV engine, tailored for DayZ, called Enfusion.They have been working on this from dayz one, and will keep working on it. Come back when you actually know what you are talking about mate, and stop spewing mis-information around tbh...... @OPLike others have mentioned, it has gotten alot better, but the nav mesh is still VIP, so its far from perfect.Its not game breaking though, because the amount of zombies atm, is extremly low. I am not being "defensive" i am stating facts.If you had followed development, you would know that from the very start of this, they had been planning to improve the engine and tailor it for DayZ, thats the main reason it went from a mod to a standalone game. To overcome the limitations of the RV3 Engine (3 as in 3rd version of the RV engine!)But the engine isnt outdated, its like almost every other engine out. The core was build long ago and then they updated it over the years and made it into what it is now. Its exactly the same as Frostbyte, CryEngine and Source.....The engine's purpose was very different from what they want to achieve now, and that takes time to change, on the core level. The reason i was so "enthusiastic" about it, is because this is public knowledge, right there for you to read. But you have choosen not to do so, so someone had to tell you the facts of it tbh.Broken and alpha, go hand in hand in video game development. Things are ment to break, they are trying to get as much as possible out of it, as they can and that will break it over and over again. Thats why we have a beta phase you know mate. To fix what the alpha broke. But like every single engine out there, theres some kind of limitation in it. You wont find any engine without limitations.The fact of the matter is that they are trying to overcome as many of them as possible, during this development, hence the looooong development phase. I am not defending anything, but looking at this with realistic expectations. Its a "small" studio, compared to most AAA titles. Granted they have aquired A LOT of new personal, but that wont make the game develop any faster. mareak 50 Posted October 8, 2014 I was about to start a new thread. Thanks to god I was intelligent enough to use the search button. I have not playing this game for a few months now. Few means like 11 months to be exact. Yesterday, I re-install back the game and play it for the first time. I was amaze with the Zombies! they were actually follow the path to get to you if you in a building or house. Unfortunately in certain area/town, they can still jump on you from behind a wall. .Ender. 42 Posted October 8, 2014 Yeah they're not too bad, and with an axe or blunt object you can still thwart off like 5 at a time by running in a circle and whacking away lol. I was in a 3 story apt building in Berezino (I believe it was on the east coast) and one ran into the front door, acted like it was going up the stairs, then started hitting me. It hit me MANY times as I ran around the stairway to go find it. It was stuck on the bottom floor, hit me probably 5 or 6 times. I did not get any broken bones but my gear was almost all ruined, was Pristine prior. Its alpha, but still going on. Not nearly as bad as it used to be. Now you just have to deal with the zeds having better vision than superman...seriously..they see you like 1000m away lol Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
