Announcing your presence and to kill or not to kill

A while ago I was raiding Cherno. I was in the Supermarket with next to nothing on me besides my axe and a Revolver with only 1 mag, when I heard a gunshot killing a zombie right outside, followed by footsteps entering.

Against my better judgement I announced my presence without taking out my Revolver, saying I was friendly and I had nothing on me. The guy calmly walks in, takes out his Lee Enfield, and shoots me in the head.

From now on, I will always shoot first.

One the biggest pet peeves I have with other players is that I, like an idiot, announce myself from the start. Scenarios usually tend to go like this:

Me: "Hey buddy, you need anything? I've got some drinks and food."

(At this point the other survivor either shoots me, or waits until I drop some stuff)

Me: "Good luck out there."

And then I get a bullet to the back, and the other survivor realizes he can't hold all the equipment I had/he had better equipment anyway.

I just don't understand people sometimes.

To be honest shoot on site unless it is you friend oibvoulsy :P because for example say your in a town and you see a unarmed player and he shouts friendly and you let him live whats to say he does not scavenge the town find a gun and you see him again and he shoots you, This basicly happend to me but i was the unarmed guy, a guy with a gun just saw me and let me live because i was unarmed he then went on to kill three people in a building and while he was not looking i stole some guns off the bodies then climbed onto the roof only to sit there for a min and turn around to see him stood there and obviously he shot me lucky for me he disconnected as he was about to kill me =D but then i randomly died for no reason :( and another reason to is because most players have adpated the shoot on sight attitude anyway so the likely hood that you find a player that says friendly and means it is quite low

I dunno about that. I've been staying friendly as much as I can. I encountered a player on one of the US servers just now called Loutt (Loutt, if you're here on the forums, hi :D). I'd heard some gunfire and went to investigate. Hungry and thirsty, I was desperate to find food. I helped Lou kill some zeds (I had a hatchet so I was able to finish them off without attracting many more), and he gave me some of the food he'd found. He'd also said he was happy to find a friendly in the server, so I guess he's had runins with bandits before.

If I find a fellow survivor nearby, what I like to do is hide somewhere out of line of sight, and attempt to communicate with them. If they continue acting hostile, I'll either defend myself or sneak off. If they seem friendly enough, we can chat more and maybe exchange supplies. Gotta stick together in times like these. :D

I'm only in major towns and cities long enough to collect a decent bag and the necessary items to live out in the woods. I'll watch someone from a distance if I see them, and attempt to help if I see that they're in a lot of trouble and are not a fresh spawn. I'll shoot someone on sight if they act threatening or approach me without trying to communicate.

My gear is too good at the moment to trust anyone, so I gotta shoot on sight, but otherwise I'm not looking for trouble.

Last somewhat friendly encounter I had was in a barn early in the game. I sneaked in prone to avoid the zombies outside. The only weapon I had at the time was an axe. When I felt like the coast was clear, I made my way to the second floor and jumped back when I saw another player facing me. **THUMP** crowsbow impales me and bleeding and being a bit discombobulated, I dropped back to the bottom floor to bandage. In retrospect, I should have axed the guy, but I was more surprised than anything. I said over voice comm "No weapon, just spawned. Either you let me walk or I will agro every zombie in the vicinity before I die." The guy never said a word, but after a minute he walked down the stairs and crawled out the door without an incident. I should have hit him with the axe as he left, but I kind of understand where he is coming from, I had appeared a couple of feet away from him brandishing an axe. Makes sense he would shoot.

When i first started playing this mod.

I was friendly and asked if other pll where also.

However i got was when i met the guy named 'matt' he said he was friendly i helped him killed his zeds we played 10 min then he killed me ...

After this happends i still seek revenge and i only have 1 rule now

I will never kill an unarmd person if he happends to pick up a weapon when im near thats a different story .

I announce to players when I re start in Cherno/Elec. After playing for about 4 days and watching a buddy get killed I have really just put guidelines for the group of people I play with.

1. Shoot if they don't answer you in direct chat or they point their gun at us.

2. If we sneak up on people we will keep barrels on them and negotiate with them.

3. If we have gear we will shoot on site when we get to that point.

Have been in 3 bad situations. Buddy was looting a barn and we were watching. Guy sneaked up and shot my buddy so I forced him to go around the barn where my buddies in the barn shoot him. Second one we were leaving a random barn in the north and a guy was coming up. I said "Friendly?" and he didn't answer then aimed his gun at me. I took a shot and went unconscious and my buddies killed him.

Third was really awesome. Three of us were at Stary checking the Mil tents from the northern side. We check the hill for spotters. Saw this poor sap standing between 2 bushes standing with B-nocks watching his friend in the tents. We walked didn't need to sneak cause he didn't hear us. One of my buddies took a position up a bit to watch him and had site on his buddy while my buddy and me put our sights on him. Told him "We got guns on you. Turn around slowly and keep your gun aimed at the floor". His friend came up while we still keep his buddy in our sights and I told him that we were going our separate ways. The guys friend asked why we didn't shoot and we told him "We aren't assholes". They ran off while a friend watched them. Didn't have to check the tents since they told us they had crap loot. But after that we found 2 heli crashes and 2 alice packs when we were running with czech bags and crap weapons. Snagged a M249, FN FAL, Bizon, and a silience M9 out of the crashes. Karma gods were watching us. No sniper rifles though :(
