Item persistence (not sure I understand correctly)

Recommended Posts

Please feel free to refer me to the respective topic or site if this is properly explained somewhere.

So... let me list the information that got through to me on one way or another:

- Items that you put somewhere will stay on that spot on that server even through server restarts

- Server restarts will no longer trigger loot to respawn

- Loot will respawn dynamically (however that works)

- There will be something like global loot... uh... a certain number of a certain item across all servers? -ish?

What I don't understand with this system: How do we avoid to at some point just virtually drown in tossed-away ruined items? Or will those disappear at some point? What if someone hunts for rare items just to throw them away in the middle of nowhere or outside of the map for shits and giggles? They'll stay there until someone just happens to stumble upon them? Or what?

I think the items degrade over time so no, if you leave an item in the woods it will eventually rot away.

I think that's the longer-term aim for the respawn system. But to start with, dropped stuff will just disappear as it is replaced by newly-spawned loot, I think.

This is the first iteration of loot respawning so they have plans to restructure and modify it at a later time.

Once an item has been laying on the ground for a certain period of time(no word on how long that is), they get flagged and removed by the server.  This does not apply to storage containers (tents, fridges, backpacks) and the items inside of them so it would be wise to use them.

I think thats the goal but the current method just assigns a lifetime to manipulated items and removes them if they don't get used or stored inside persistent containers (tents so far). I am also not sure if this kind of loot persists when a server restarts.

So, is there anything that would prevent people from hunting for rare loot and putting them in a tent on their own password protected server? I do hope there is, but I tend to doubt it...

password-protected servers are violating terms of agreement and should be reported to the GSP.

Are they? Because I see quite a few password protected servers every time I go through the server list... o.O

Or maybe I'm thinking about another game right now... not entirely sure... uh... 70%... 75...

Yeah, unfortunately there's a lot of admins abusing the system, seems like its a constant battle to get them taken down, once one goes another pops up.

Well there are also plenty servers that will just kick you upon joining without further ado... For me that's just another kind of "password protected"

Thats also against the terms of agreement.

Still would make the attempt to hoard equipment in vain as the gear just gets taken down with the server. :)

That's good to know. xD

I wasn't aware both kinds of servers violate the rules.
