.45's with no ammo spawns?

Recommended Posts

Is it just me or is .45 ammo very rare now. I haven't found a box of ammo since the patch. Lots of 9mm but no 9mm pistol spawns?

seems pretty rare to me too, I've been feeding my FNX with 1911 mags but I haven't seen any loose or boxed ammo for .45 in ages. I have seen a couple of 9mm pistols and quite a few mags, loose ammo and boxed ammo in 9mm. the shotgun ammo seems to be EVERYWHERE at the moment too.

FNX mags are in good supply so I haven't run out if ammo but it's my my bag in favor of my magnum now. Just seems like the FNX is quieter than the magnum. On pop of the .357 and every z in svetlo comes running

Found a mag for my fnx, but since then I haven't found a single round to load it with.

And ditto on the 9mm issue. Walked into a police station yesterday and found 3 boxes of 9mm. Haven't seen a single weapon for it though. 9mm ammo is about as common as a rotten zucchini right now.

I've noticed an increase in rarity of .45 rounds as well. But, IMO I think it's great! The survivors of DayZ should be more commonly found with weapons such as shotguns & 9mm weapons & very low-tier civilian-esc weapons. Not that .45s are uncommon (here in America anyway), but overall I think we're starting to see good balance.

9mm is way more common. But thats actually a realistic representation as .45 APC is not as widely used outside of America. Most people in Europe probably think the additional power is not worth the additional weight and smaller magazine size as pistol damage seems to suck anyways (it helps that 9mm is the "resident" cartridge).

Interestingly the most common pistol I tend to find in Cheranrus is the Colt 1911.

My guess is that it's because no-one picks it up any more (shotguns being bugged and all) and the new loot system where unlooted loot persists on server after a restart. Eventually, we will be able to build a ship from shotgun shells.

What "additional power" :P

9mm 124gr nato is around 440-460 ft/lbs of energy out of a 4-4.5 inch barrel.  I've seen 5 inch barrel nato rated 9's spitting 124grs at over 1320 fps, which is around 480+ ft/lbs.

.45acp 230 gr is around 350 ft/lbs.

On average the .45 APC packs slightly more of a punch. What you did is comparing one of the weaker .45 APC to one of the stronger 9mm which doesn't really make sense when comparing the cartridges. The average energy values of .45 APC are ~40-80 J higher than those of 9mm (Parabellum) Whether this difference actually matters is subject of many debates (though most tests actually come to the conclusion "it doesn't").

The 9mm allows for more ammo, less recoil and moves faster which is why its widely considered superior. The 5.56x45mm vs 7.62x39mm comparison is somewhat similar.

What I actually did was compare the service ammunition of each caliber used within service side arms.  9mm nato, which is just barley shy of +P, vs your standard 230gr .45 acp fmj.  These are both standard ammo used by nato forces in these calibers.

I find 45 rounds everywhere.  Suddenly I can't find a 357 magnum to save my life.  I also can't find the 45 mags.
