Variation in Zombie Clothes

I've read that with recent patches DayZ now has firefighter and medic clothes as well. Just as with the construction worker helmet I really wonder how many people really want to dress like that. So after I saw some pictures that seems to be from some DayZ Mod zombies (see below) I wondered if it wouldn't be rather cool to use existing clothes that players can also wear and just use it for zombie models. This would need some "almost naked" zombies as a base that get dressed up by some random combinations that could also be specified more precisely.

For example: Zombies in a certain radus around military bases would mostly spawn in military clothes while zombies that spawn in and around a police station could rather be seen in our new police uniforms. This could work just as well with construction worker zombies, firefighter or medic zombies and so on. To fit their scary nature it would of course be good if these clothes are already somewhat stained and not in a pristine shape like the zombie has it in the picture below or there could even be blood on them. As a side note I would also prefer to see blood on players clothes once someone got injured so it would make sense to add this as a feature and some zombies would have some ruined and or bloody clothes right from the beginning when they spawn.

 

This would also give the option to actually loot zombies. I'm not sure who would actually wear some ragged clothes he grabbed from a zombie but I like the thought that theoretically if you would want to you could take their stuff if and what they might have in their pockets.

Now there's a big question left: Would this also make sense? I'm not so sure about it myself but I felt like sharing the thought with you. The development of DayZ is maybe already too far ahead for it to recreated the way zombies are. Yet I personally would like to see more variety in zombies and given the fact that the creation of police, firefighter, medic and other new zombies always require to build a model up from the start wouldn't it be easier resource wise, just to have some blank zombie bodys that you can equip with all the gear that the players can use as well to create this sort of variety?

Clothing should not be intrinsically different between survivors and zombies. You should be able to wear almost everything zombies do - however most zombie clothes might be flithy*, low tier and in bad condition making it more of an emergency choice. On the other side it makes sense to find clothing worn by zombies - the former inhabitants of Chernarus - in residential loot spawns as well. Conversely zombies should probably sport the currently available survivor clothes as well.

 

Its pretty strange to have two sets of outfits in Cheranrus: The "wear when the zombie apocalypse hits" outfits (current zombie clothes) and the "keep at home when the zombie apocalypse hits" outfits (current survivor cloithes). For example female zombies are clearly wearing skirts. Did they burn all other skirts bthey had before being zombified? Why? Does it help spotting survivors?

 

*Might carry the risk of infection until washed/desinfected. Maybe there could be an additional stat for clothing overall: Clean (no change), Dirty (marginally increased risk of infection), Very Dirty (moderately increased risk of infection) and Filthy (significantly increased risk of infection). Dirty clothes might be cleaned with water but filthy clothes would require medical supplies like alcohol and desinfectant spray.

I don't think the zombie clothes should be lootable, but I agree with the rest of this suggestion.

 

If zombie clothes can be looted, all you need is a sewing kit (and probably something to clean the clothes with, I suppose) and look for a military zombie. Kill him and you've got top-tier military clothing.

 

Lootable zombies is something I definitely support, just not taking their clothes. Would be nice to see military zombies having a small chance to carry ammo or bandages or even a damaged weapon, though. Regular zombies could carry things like basic melee weapons (knives, screwdrivers), items like rope and ductape as well as tinned food - all damaged of course.

 

Randomised clothing means more variation in zombies without having to create a dozen unique models, which is always a good thing.
