Cap'n (DayZ) 1827 Posted August 3, 2014 I've always had a disliking towards other people dragging strangers into a play session with me. Not only have I never met these people, but I can't really gauge how they'll act. Will they be competent? Will they have a friendly demeanor? Are they going to get us killed? Well, a friend decided to drag on two "buddies" of his to play with us. We were all scattered across the map, whilst me and my good friend Skat3 were stuck in lowly old Berezino. He had just murdered an axe wielding psychopath in the police station, so I was already on edge. The other guys were mostly west, and all met in Elektrozadvosk before we even left the town. A man needs his loot, alright? So after the arduous task of combing every town block, we made way for the Solinchiny factory. There, we would meet. I tabbed out, and turned on VNV Nation, and enjoyed the music while we made our journey. It was a bit difficult to enjoy over the constant bickering of the two guests. One was not given the chance to loot up, and the other had been shot in a friendly fire incident and needed saline (or something like that). I tried my best to ignore them. Finally, we set foot in the factory. They arrived a short time after, with zombies in tow. The whiny, younger one clumsily attempted to dispatch their pursuers with his machete. I grumbled and stepped up to assist him. With two swings of my axe, I finished both of them quickly. "Get rekt!" he enthusiastically yelled over Skype. Oh great. One of those people. Yeah, I'm a judgmental asshole. Seeing as the kid wasn't looted up, I decided to be generous. I pitched in a holster, and an ammobox with assorted rounds. The other guys gave him an engraved 1911. I admit, I was pretty jealous. But all he had was a pistol, so he was a definite burden. The other guest, however, had an SKS with PU Scope. He could be depended on in a fight. Unfortunately, he was a very sarcastic and hostile person. That also bothered me. He didn't seem so much of a friend as someone who constantly antagonized the younger one, but he was pretty annoying at times, so I could understand the attitude. So, at this point, I was merely a bit skeptical of the quality of our new comrades. I asked them a question. "Either of you played the mod?" Nope. Both of them didn't. Say what you want, I just don't trust the skill level of non-mod players. A mod vet understands the game a lot better, and thus was usually more dependable. I'm certain there are good players who didn't play the mod before, but I just haven't met any. And yes, they were bad. They both suggested we run in tight groups so we could keep "track of each other". What? That was an awful idea. We'd all get picked off in seconds by someone with an AK. I had found a pristine tent hours earlier, and I had yet to see what it looks like when pitched. They didn't either, so I decided to pitch it. Everyone was amazed, and they all grouped around it. We took a group picture. But then it went into packed form, and the younger one quickly muttered "Quick, take it!". Nope, having none of it. Took back straight into my pack, and turned around. It was hard to tell if he was kidding, as the urgency felt pretty genuine, but I shrugged it off as a joke. It hadn't gone downhill yet. Not until we reached the clinic, at least. What followed next was a bit difficult to discern. I was only watching, but my mutual friend jokingly suggested we give the young one alcohol tincture. I had some charcoal tabs, so I wasn't concerned. Next thing you know, Skat3, who didn't know these guys either, was involved. The other stranger was angrily pointing his rifle at him, threatening to shoot if he did anything. I had little grasp of the situation, so I raised my rifle too. Our OTHER friend was still chasing the kid, and he had his pistol out. So at this point, it was some kind of dysfunctional mexican standoff. Skat3 was getting the dreaded LMB bug, so he had to relog. Then, the other guy asked for his younger friend. "He man, I don't trust Mosin guy (me) and his little buddy (Skat3). I say we kill him." This concerned me. I flatly told them, that I did NOT want a fight. They didn't seem to care. Seeing as they were going to probably shoot my friend when he logged in, I retreated to the woods to watch them from a distance. Eventually, they did catch on. "Hey, were'd Mosin guy go?" "No idea, I think he went up to the woods." "Yeah, that sounds about right!" "Hey, let's kill his buddy when he logs in!" That's were I drew the line. I was going to kill them. I discussed it with both the friend on Skat3 over Skype, away from the two strangers. I'd lost the trust of these two, and wasn't having none of it. Skat3 spawned in, only to meet with the two. They were angry at me, and were threatening my friend quite loudly. The other friend, who introduced us to these two, was quite neutral. He even instigated it! But I didn't mind. I didn't know these guys, and I had no qualms with killing them. I took some poor potshots, and everyone went to the eastern side of the clinic for cover. My only choice was to get closer. So I flanked along the treeline, past the farm, past the green house, and through the small factory neighborhood. I eventually found a fence with some bushes for cover, facing were they were in cover. I could only see my two friends, and neither of the aggressors, so I crawled up closer to look. I messaged my good friend Skat3. "Are you ready for this?" "Shoot the (younger one) when you get the chance!" I took that as a yes. I snuck closer, until I got the clearest view of him 'd be afforded. I went into my sights, and centered it between his shoulder blades. In one swift click, he falls in a mist of blood. Skat3 quickly reacts, looking to the other one. He raises his SKS, and empties an entire clip directly into his chest. Mission accomplished. We had made two enemies, killed them, and laughed our asses off for the next ten minutes. We hid their bodies. I even got my grubby hands on his shiny engraved pistol. But, the moral of the story is; Don't trust anyone, even if they're mutual "friends". Of course, that goes both ways...us included :murder: :beans: ;)
irishroy 1347 Posted August 3, 2014 (edited) Long wall of text, but clearly structured and good to read. I'm happy that you got the engraved M1911 and killed this little kid ;)(I don't have anything against kiddos, but kids can be a pain in the ass in a game like DayZ, where the maingoal is NOT "kill kill kill") I met a guy myself some months ago and we played quite some time together. But then I got shot and was dead, so I told my "friend" to take all my stuff, since he was a freshspawn and had nothing important. So I respawned and made my way back to him. On this way I found quite good stuff, like shotgun and .45-ammo, a chest holster, hunting backpack, etc. Then we met he gave me my stuff back. And because I was so thankful, I have him also some of my items (it was like 2 canteens, can openener and what not), then we logged off.The next day I see: I miss my ammo-box full of .357 and shotgun-ammo.... I asked him, but he replied "There was no ammo-box in your inventory" Well, guess how it ended... (but it was not only the hat I shot ;)) and I looted him and he had 2 ammoboxes full of 5.56-M4-stacks and 3 60-rounds-magazines for the M4.... Grimey Rick 3417 Posted August 3, 2014 Long wall of text, but clearly structured and good to read. I'm happy that you got the engraved M1911 and killed this little kid ;) That is not a wall of text. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=wall%20of%20text Educate yourself. @Cap'n: Good job. I don't like playing with friends of friends or random people either. I've actually shot a few in the face if they're annoying on the mic or do stupid things whilst playing. The drama that ensues is nothing short of legendary.

Khanarac 252 Posted August 3, 2014 (edited) Even though you are a backstabbing bastard, you did the right thing :D They made stupid jokes where you can't be sure if they mean it, and they had to pay for it. Also it looked like those guys haven't matched your playstyle anyway. You sound like you take dayz seriously, for you it's about skill and hunting, i guess? Not for those guys. Was a good read even though it was long. Edited August 3, 2014 by Khanarac
Irish. 4886 Posted August 3, 2014 So what I got out of that was this: You can trust your friends but not new people you don't know yet. As far as mod veterans.. yes, they have more experience true. But it does not mean they can be relied upon more so than a SA newb. Our clan has several 1 week old SA newbs and most of them are now better than over half of the mod veterans I know and have played with. Its all about experience and playing with others that can teach you quickly.. from there skill is only a matter of quick reactions and intelligence applied during stressful situations. tobias winfro 305 Posted August 3, 2014 You did the right thing Cap'n, matter of fact you should have ended their miserable lives much sooner. I've been in some sketchy situations where one friend will log out for a minute or 2 and some dumb shit in our group will get the "let's kill em for his shit" attitude. No remorse just a bullet or 3 for their troubles, does that make us bad people? Nope just survival of the fittest
