  1. 1. Does fall damage need to be one of the major adjustments next?

Because you were expecting something smart and not easy?

I work as a programmer. Sometimes you have to weigh the benefits of an easy solution vs. the time investment required for a complete solution. I just don't feel that fall damage is a crucial part of gameplay at this point in time. I wouldn't mind it if was turned off or extremely decreased.

Well...I mean if your name was "Bananahamper" or something, then no.

But I mean your name IS script factory....was expecting a pretty elaborate response to fix the fall damage issue, not simply turn it off to ignore it until later lol xD

I just wish my character wouldn't stop for a couple of seconds every time when he falls down 50cm while running.

It's a different kind of scripting. :D

Make sure to use the bug tracker, they are far more likely to track that than threads on the forums. I've never heard of the launching bug, I'd make sure to put that one up there if it isn't already.

I say it should be addressed, although the way the ARMA engine does height means its probably a much bigger issue to work out than other physics based engines. I've fallen great heights and come out without a scratch, this could highlight some potentially huge issues that need to be worked out under the hood, and indicate that its probably not as simple as changing a value like in some engines.

In the mod you could fall any height and survive as long as you didn't hit the ground.

As funny as that may sound, I mean the ground. If you landed on any object you would live without injury I think. This may also be the case in the SA.

Alan Magee, WWII Air Force gunner 20,000 feet through a glass roof

With legions of high altitude bombers filling the skies over Europe and the Pacific, and no shortage of fighter planes and flak attempting to bring them down, World War II is full of stories of young airman falling from extreme heights--and improbably living to tell about it. One of the most sensational stories is about American Staff Sargeant Alan Magee's fall from 20,000 feet.

In January of 1943, Magee was a ball turret gunner in a B-17 Flying Fortress on a bombing run on the Atlantic coast of Nazi-occupied France. During the raid, his plane, called the "Snap! Crackle! Pop!", took enemy fire and broke up over the U-boat yards of St. Nazaire. Acting quickly, Magee escaped his turret and jumped from the flaming bomber without a parachute. Because of the altitude, Magee lost consciousness mid-fall before smashing through the glass roof of St. Nazaire's train station. Hours later, he awoke to find German doctors putting him back together. His injuries included a broken right leg and ankle, a nearly severed right arm, and 28 shrapnel wounds from shards of glass.

Dr. Seth Izenberg, a trauma specialist at Legacy Emmanuel Hospital in Portland, Ore., says that while a fall from 20,000 feet sounds incredible, the extreme height makes little difference. "Anything above 10 or 12 stories and you've reached terminal velocity. So a fall from 20,000 feet sounds dramatic, but there's really no difference from a 500-foot fall."

Fall damage is one of the lowest priority fixes in the whole game, as far as I see it.

For one thing, I very rarely fall off things anyway, and I don't see why anyone would unless they are being spectacularly careless. For another, whenever I have fallen from height, the damage has seemed entirely reasonable to me.

Gee I'm glad most of this is discussed in feet, because stops me from thinking further about the "x feet drop lethal" statements.

uselessunits.stopit.

Anyhow - I voted no. Not because I think the falling damage works well, but because I think that many of us have learned to use various workarounds to avoid it. There are other things that are harder to just ignore imo.

Melee hit direction, vehicles, diseases, cold effects and such will do much more for my game experience than fixing falling damage. I'll just keep not stepping off the stairs outside the apartment buildings.

I'm sorry as long as you aren't a complete and total retard you can jump from 2 story's and be fine as long as you jump out not straight down( yes i'm aware its plenty possible to break something from that high). I'm fine with legs being broken from 2 story's up but dying, hell no. Make it to were 1 story your fine and 2 story's your alive but your legs break. Seems reasonable to me. 3 you just die. These stupid little 4 feet drops breaking your legs and ruining your pants and everything in them need to go. For that matter make it to where a fall 2 story's or lower doesn't ruin your pants or things in them.

Yes it is lol, there was also some Austrian flight attendant( if i remember correctly, probably not though) that got sucked out of a passenger airliner, fell something like 30,000 feet and survived lol.
