pillock 850 Posted July 28, 2014 (edited) It will survive a server restart for only a certain amount of time afterwards. They said they are cleaning up the system for that. What do you mean by 'cleaning up the system for that'? Edited July 28, 2014 by Pillock
Etherious 907 Posted July 28, 2014 What do you mean by 'cleaning up the system for that'?The system of item/loot persistence after server restarts. Because as it was now before they took the Experimental servers, they were cluttered with old loot people were dropping.
emigrates 261 Posted July 28, 2014 (edited) Well, bear in mind that I speak in general terms; ie. there shouldn't, at this point, be such a thing as a "rare" item. That's an aspect of gameplay, NOT testing. Gameplay concepts like that can wait until the game is in a more complete state. But specifically? I have never even SEEN an AK, MP5, Pristine ACOG, and have had and EXTREMELY hard time finding arrows and crossbow bolts. Seriously. I don't get it. Why give us a crossbow to test out, but make the bolts SO exceedingly rare (in addition to being unrecoverable), that the players have a difficult time finding them and testing them. I mean, what happens if somehow, a bug makes it past beta, and a player fires a bolt at this ONE tree or something, that causes every player to suddenly teleport 100 feet into the air and be stuck there, floating. And all because nobody KNEW about the bug, because few people could find the bolts to test the crossbow out. An extreme example, I know, but I feel it illustrates my point. Try looking some more, I can go into Berezino and have AK's coming out of my ears. I stumbled into police stations and left MP5's behind because I already have one and ACOG's used to be pretty common, now (Just like all M4 attachments) you can find them at Heli crashes. I've got an ACOG on Hardcore and threw one away on Reg the other since I use Mosin. Edit: The question I have is how the tent will be found or made. Will it be crafted or will we stumble across a tent? Edited July 28, 2014 by emigrates

So, you'd have to 'tend' your storage - ie. return to it after each restart and 're-drop' it?
bauertschi 254 Posted July 28, 2014 (edited) So, you'd have to 'tend' your storage - ie. return to it after each restart and 're-drop' it? Don't forget this is experimental. As far as I am concerned they simply tested persistance with all objects to see if it generally works and what happens to the servers when many, many persistant objects are lieing around. I doubt dropped objects will be persistant in future versions, it's just too much. It also makes looking for objects that allow persistant objects useless if you can just throw everything anywhere and it stays. Just imagine things like dropped ruinied stuff being persistant forever... Edited July 28, 2014 by bautschi
Jex 1104 Posted July 28, 2014 (edited) Tents! woot! "If you build it, we will come looking for your gear and steal it then burn down your tent." Edited July 28, 2014 by Jexter

Appreciated, this is the early stages of testing a new feature, and it will change over time, but I think the intention and design for it is probably in place already. I think a good concept would be to have degradation of dropped items, so when they reach 'ruined', they disappear shortly afterwards. It would make sense if items stored inside a tent or backpack or box or building would degrade more slowly - how long this process would take would obviously need to be balanced alongside the loot respawn system. Players need to be able to store loot for future use without having to log in every few hours just to make sure it doesn't get deleted by the game.
irishroy 1347 Posted July 28, 2014 What is the exactly sense of tents, when every loot regarding if it's in or outside from tents is persistent, why do we need those containers?just for the heck of it. Tents, man, tents!
