Why own a server?

Recommended Posts

When anyone can reset it at the moment, seriously how is something so game breaking not been fixed yet?

Anybody reset it. Do you mean the splint glitch? But any server that is restarted by the owner more than once every 2 hours gets shut down. Breaks owning a server's rules.

Yes, I do mean that, wasn't trying to state it though.  And no, no server gets shut down... ever... for any reason.  Nor should it be with the outrageous cost to rent one.

"You can rent a 40 person server for just 95$ a month!  Oh but you can't kick anyone unless there hacking... oh did we mention that you cant' tell who is who and therefore can't tell who is hacking?  So really you can't kick anyone.  Oh but you can reset it!  Did we mention if you reset it less than 2 hours you are breaking your terms of agreement?  Oh and anyone can reset it too so lawl @ you"

I'm definitely taking down my server soon.  I wish everyone would stop paying for one and then Bohemia would have no choice but to give out more administration access to allow admins to actually "administrate" their server.

Edit:

I honestly feel like it is almost a scam to rent a server at this point.

I rented one for a month. Low population despite absolutely NO admin abuse on my part made me not renew it.

But honestly, I don't see the point in renting a server at all unless you are going to set up a private hive, which cant be done at this stage.

I suspect that in the future, perhaps at around beta time, admins will probably be given more tools to work with. But until then? yeah, pretty pointless IMO...

Most people figured this out BEFORE they forked out a stupid amount of money.

Only reason right now is to support the game, its in active development so admin tools cannot be created without knowing what they need to manage and how..They could end up having to re-write or add to the tools with each new game feature, so makes sense to just compile the tool at the end. Id expect a pretty robust admin tool to show up mid to late beta time once all features are in, and when private hives are implemented :)
