Some servers will kick you if you are above, because you tend to increase lag to everyone else.

Ever see a guy warping from place to place? that's called playing with a bad connection or having a high ping to the server, which generally means your far from where the server is located in the real life world.

 

I advise to avoid playing any servers over 120.. if you do, it just tends to make for generally bad gameplay, like lagging and picking up/dropping items take 2 days to hit your inventory, or the floor, whatever the case.

How much of a delay to your actions do you want? Obviously not a full second. (1000ms) Not half a second either. 1/4th of a second is probably starting to become a little much. Ideally, you'll want it to be under 1/10th of a second. You're barely going to notice that unless you're a parrot.

That largely depends on your reaction time. The faster you can respond the lower latencies you will notice.

My average response time is around 286 ms and most server I play are UK ones meaning ping below 40

Now average Joe has a reaction time between 300-350 that plus 100 ping = almost certain death.

There are reaction time test programs, you could do online but that's plus ping.

The less the better. Mainly I use servers with less then 50 or 60. Mostly there are more than enough of them.

My main concern is wanting to play on European servers, but I am in the central US (texass). I think it might be fun to play with people from other countries for whom english is not their native language, you know, for immersion and RP. Not terribly interested in PvP (though I'm sure it will happen) or squad play.

Anyhow, given the time-zone differences it often isn't a lot of fun to play on servers that aren't in your region because. At least from my experience. People staying up way past their bedtime make for grumpy gamers.

Russians, Germans, French, English, Swedish, just about anyone but the people that live near me. I have been going for the lowest ping servers and if I hear one more southern guy say "ya'll" I'm gonna frikkin scream. The time difference isn't an issue because I can play just about anytime I want and can easily play during the European primetime.

Well, nothing left for you but to try! Just remember that a ping of 500ms basically means half-a-second of delay between you performing your actions and the server receiving them so you can kind of imagine how that would go if all your actions in real life had half a second delay.

I think, judging from the kind of ping I would have on US servers in many games, you would probably be around the  300. Assuming you have a decent broadband connection.

I usually only play servers where my ping is 80 or less. Anything over 100 I filter out (which I think is the default), but sometimes I'll lower my filter to a max of 80.
