the_daddy2009 15 Posted July 20, 2014 Been lost in the wilderness now for nearly 3 days (real time). Been ages since I happened upon anything that resembled a lootable buidling, don't have a compass or map and I'm running out of rations fast. I seem to spend hours traipsing across the vast landscape only to discover more nothingness. I have an M4 which I've yet to fire, I've yet to see another sole living or dead, at this point I'm kind of hoping a Z would find me just for some social interaction. For the last few hours I've been sat in a bush on a hill, overlooking a vast expanse of countryside. I don't want to die in this bush. Please if you can muster it, help me. (I'll post pictures of my surroundings and then maybe some kind individual will point me in the general direction of food/water etc..) Thank you.
LeeVanSpliff 156 Posted July 20, 2014 Heh nice, I love being lost in dayz. Well ... not being lost, but that you can get lost. Anyhow: There's coast to the south and east. If you go south-east, you'll find coast and civilization (and trigger happy people ... but that's a different sort of problem). Use sun position or this stuff http://dayz.gamepedia.com/How_to_find_North to find north, then travel to south-east. You'll run into roads or power lines sooner or later. They mostly lead to settlements too.

Agilov 133 Posted July 20, 2014 How do I use those coordinates? There is a map at dayzdb.com. You also can use the maps you can find ingame. You are in the far north of the map. But I would suggestto go to the website, type jn the coords and head towards the loot points in your vincinity. If you are playing in the evening, the sun must be on your right if you want to go south.

Mullraugh 1151 Posted July 20, 2014 Don't use the online maps ever. It's a far greater achievement/adventure if you figure this out on your own.

Nobodyuknow (DayZ) 0 Posted July 25, 2014 I'd like to see an in-game map ('m' key) for areas you have been. As in most other games like Age of Empires, etc. Checking the suns position depending on time of day or using constellations at night is useful and probably more true-to-life as it would be in that situation, but to get rid of the grrrr factor a evolving map would be nice. I know we're in alpha, maybe this will make it to dev at some point. I had a compass at one point, it seemed useless in 'prestine' condition. Maybe I was using it wrong or it was glitched. Move to proper topic if necessary. Thanks.
Cullis 7 Posted July 25, 2014 I seriously don't get how someone can get lost in DayZ. Unless they have on leg shorter than the other and keep running in circles*.. There's the edge of the map. You hit it, travel in the opposite direction. It's impossible to not find towns that way.. Chernarus was a densely populated area. *interesting to note than in real-life, if you tell people to walk straight and they can't orient themselves according to a compass or the sun, they'll tend to walk in a circle.. doctorbadsign 645 Posted July 25, 2014 What would you do if you were lost and looking for civilization in real life? Look for roads? Power lines? Train tracks?
CJFlint 357 Posted July 25, 2014 (edited) LOL This sounds like a great dayz adventure. I play 95% completely and have learned a few things over time to make my life easier playing dayz. Here's a something you should look into. Down load Team Speak, Over Wolf ect. While playing run over wolf while your playing. Over wolf is a really great tool to use while you playing any game really because it works as an over lay. You can open a internet browser and use it while you play. What I do is I have a "DayZ TV" map open in my over wolf browser. The DayZ TV map is a vary useful tool to have while playing dayz. You can find out were military bases, are loot drops, figure out routes, and even measure distances if you play as a sniper it is really important. Once I find were I'm at its just like land nav in real life, but you don't have to worry about true north or mag north. North is just north You look for terrain features, and use your compass to figure out what direction your going in and what you location is. Its not really that hard once you get the hang of it. But I will admit I have been lost my self in my early days of playing, its pretty easy to have happen until you get really used to the map. I look at having a compass in Dayz as one of the most important items you can have in your kit. Unless of course you play grouped and someone does the nav for you.
