Payday masks

Recommended Posts

Ok so with the "clown" masks (they are actually the masks from the payday series) why is that suddenly "bandit" masks?

I see everyone post about them and how that instantly means bandit. I don't get it?

Also are they licensed or do the developers of Payday just not care?

Mask or no mask, it's just another excuse to pop a bullet into someone head and feel good about it!  ;)

They offer no tangible benefit other than to hide your appearance, and empirical evidence shows that if you need to hide your appearance then you have something else to hide.

Who are you more likely to trust to conduct business? Someone with an open friendly appearance, or someone hiding underneath a facemask?
Human interaction and communication relies more heavily on body language than anything else, and a large portion of that comes from facial expressions.
Common sense dictates that if someones hiding their face then they're not being honest nor trustworthy, therefore shoot first and ask questions later ;)

It is not instantly. It was a longer process. Like many, not all, stereotypes, also this has its roots somewhere.

To me they are childish and stupid. They look ridiculous and who the hell is going to really wear those, let alone in a zombie apoc so yeah, shoot them in their faces.

They are generally worn for intimidation or bandit role play by some clans. Seeing this threat, DayZ players adapted this into our plethora of quirky social norms based off of our various paranoia(s).

(I.E, shouting "friendly")

what do you mean suddenly? lmao you don't even know what you don't know when you first start playing this game. I guess you also don't get ironic homage? the clowns in PayDay are bandits as well.

I appreciate this game is a simulator and tries to be realistic, but stop trying to take it too far...

OP I think the masks in general have a bad rep because it's kinda childish/creepy/how a bandit type player would want to look.

it's not taking it too far, in fact it's a simple way of transmitting intent in this world, if you're not a bandit DON'T COVER YOUR FACE!

No. The choice of what you wear over your face shows your intentions I agree, but it has nothing to do with "facial expressions," like he was trying to suggest. I would trust someone wearing a gas mask, not someone wearing a clown mask.

Respirator and gas mask?

Many people do like to role play you know. I often use the respirator when I play a life where I carry no weapon besides a fire-fighting axe and medical supplies to deal with any problem people might have when I come across them. The Gas Mask may not be functional yet, but in my current life I am kitting myself like an SAS squadie, ready to storm room full of bandits and mow them down with my mp5k.

I can kind of understand the gas mask, but not the respirator.

I assumed they will at some point provide some sort of protection. Still doesn't answer the question as to if they are licensed or Overkill (development company) just hasn't bothered with it yet.

Also gasmask and respirator I thought were intended to fight sickness(once implemented)

It's a promo. Dean thought people would like it but to his surprise it's used for banditry labeling.

If you actually play like that - you're a bandit whether you know it or not.

Edit: assuming you kill them obviously

Everyone is a bandit until they prove otherwise. But full green military kit = Bandit. Mask = Bandit. Burlap Sack = Dumb Bandit.

no I think you'll find if  my character was killing folk based on their chosen attire i'd be suitably resplendent in my discerning attire of a payday mask, though i'd like to think I can bring a bit more class than just boring KOS

The masks are a homage to payday and the developers agreed upon the masks being in game, sort of a friendly gesture.

The reason I shoot people with masks, is because up until now, every single person I came across wearing a mask was either: A: a complete douche bag who loves to power-trip, B: some one trolling, C: not responding to conversation and trying to be that 'mysterious guy" who eventually shoot you in the back as soon as they find a weapon and last but not least D: They are bad camo, i see them hiding in bushes for an ambush, that purple just jumps out of the the colors and I shoot them before they try anything stupid.

PayDay or Gasmask means KoS for me.

I tend to take that same approach.  I has been my experience that almost everyone I have meet wearing a mask has been either a bandit or someone who betrayed me the second they had an advantage.  I can at least see wearing a motor cycle helmet as it actually provides some useful benefit to wearing one.

Everyone I've met with a motorcycle helmet as been a total knob too - usually they try to start punching you knowing they can't be ko'd
