2 DayZ SA copies, 2 Steam Acc., one computer

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have a problem. My brother and I have 2 Steam Accounts and we both have DayZ Standalone bought on both of them but, when I log on to Steam and try to play DayZ, my brother's character always shows up and I can't choose mine. Is there a fix to this?

Elaborate on "brother's account always shows up". Did you go to Steam → Change User... and log in to your own Steam account?

And when you say your brother's account shows up, do you mean his character appears in the DayZ main menu? Or...

Yes, his character appears when I am on my Steam account

Are you just looking at the main menu? Because that usually shows last character, not current, so if you are signed in, it will change to you as you join a server. Happened to me when sharing a pc with my brother

Yeah, you need to use two different Windows sides.

im surprised you would have to use different user accounts, i would of thought the fact different steams use different keys to differentiate between accounts that would of forced steam to either A) rewrite the key in registry each time a different account is used (like in arma) or B ) write both keys into registry and call on either one depending on the account asking for access through steam.

I hate user account clutter on PC's and having to create a secondary user just to switch steam accounts STRICTLY for dayz seems odd, when  arma never worked like that.

I dunno. It is indeed an interesting issue. Not sure what's causing it. I just suggested a new Windows side because it's a quick and easy (if only temporary) fix.

Already tried switching Windows accounts, it doesn't work

What!? Ok, dude. There has to be something weird causing this.

So, you have two Windows sides, with Steam and DayZ installed, and you are logged into one and your brother is logged into the other, and when you play DayZ on your side, it shows his character in the main menu?

...Have you tried playing on servers? ... It very well could just be showing his character there but really yours is the one being used. That happens when switching between hardcore and regular servers, it shows the other character.

Try playing on a server, if you haven't.

If that doesn't work, I really don't know what to tell you dude, unless I am missing something or you aren't explaining everything perfectly.

I think he's lying. They only have 1 copy of DayZ. ;)

The characters that are spawned on a server are bound to the active Steam ID. It should be impossible to spawn in the game with a character that belongs to another Steam profile.

The character that shows up in the main menu is the last character that was played on your computer no matter which account you are logged into.

Try connecting to a server to see what character you end up playing as.
