Rocket, I'm paying for a dedicated server that sits idle waiting for server files.

Recommended Posts

I get that you guys are overwhelmed and stuff but I'm paying for a server to sit idle while I wait for you guys to respond (email) with the server files and install instructions. Who do I have to bribe so my money isn't being wasted on a dedicated server that is useless? There can't be that many people who are requesting access for dedicated servers every day.

Real men don't use instructions, if you provide me with your instance number in a PM I'll give you the server files.

And there are thousands of requests for servers, for a small team.

I think our server hosting request took around 1-2 weeks - which i consider quite swift if you remember that those people handle the request in their FREE TIME and have to CHECK your request so that there are no problems later.

Thanks for offering assistance. My server is dedicated through HFB and the IP was submitted for whitelisting last week.

PMs sent.

My question is are you going to actually give instance IDs out to all of the server hosting requests? Are they being processed at all or do you guys deem that there are enough servers at the moment? I sent my request 7 days ago, will I ever get a response?

You can't blame them that you are paying for a server before you got white listed.

chicken and the egg. unless you own the server you are hosting on and it was up before you decided to run a dedicated sever then you have no idea what that IP will be until you provision a server to use as the host. whitelisting requires an IP.

We ARE still processing server requests, almost every single day. The amount of people requesting servers actually is alot. It's way more than a small team like mine is able to handle, which is why we're going to have an automated signup system for new server requests very soon. We're close to done with it, and you'll likely see something after the 1.7.2 update. Until then just sit tight. We're taking them in the order we receive them in.

Alex,

I helped two people on here set up their servers already, they just need instance id's and whitelisting. If you want their info, I'll point them to your PM.

Alex. Thanks for the response. I don't think people mind waiting. It's just difficult when people don't even know if you got their email. The fact that your own website states that your email is broken doesn't inspire confidence :)

The thing with the waiting is that people expect too much and want you to expand, they see it as a waste of time, and money. Another thing is unless a topic like this is made, you are seen as not active, this could all blow over if deadlines are made even if very large. People will expect it at a date rather than expecting it immediately. I personally want my community's server to be processed, bringing in my personal bias. I just think if everyone was more open and truthful about your work, and how much you have we wouldn't have rage topics like this. So mods, and those who handle the management of servers; be more active and say what you're doing... come on it's simple.

tl;dr - Be open about what you're doing rather than having this type of thing.

They are meant to be confirmed before the files are given out, Were they?

I agree. In their defense, they have confirmed they were working on a "ticketing" system for this. However, if they're just so short on people to process these, how is the ticketing system going to speed things up anymore then rummaging through emails? I think they should just hire or appoint volunteers to help the process. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to look at a server and deem it worthy of running something. Specs are seen easily in Windows 2003/2008 and you can do a quick speed test to confirm the bandwidth speeds. I'm assuming the hold up is verifying the requested servers are capable?

Also. Many of these servers are coming from hosts that are responsible for a LARGE majority of the public servers. These companies are selling these dedicated boxes knowing that they are for hosting dayz servers. If you verify one of these boxes at a specific tier for say HFB it seems like you guys are wasting your time verifying identical boxes on the same networks with the same available bandwidth.

Hohl maybe it's just speculation but people have claimed these companies are getting their servers whitelisted and approved significantly faster then those of us with our own dedicated boxes.

Trust me, I understand what ALL of you are going through. It was only 2 months ago that I was in your very same shoes waiting on my 2nd week for that e-mail to come with my instance ID. On top of new servers, the admin team is also tasked with supporting people who don't have the knowledge to maintain or get their server working, so over the past few weeks, the support requests have just piled up faster then we can answer them.

We are aware of all the support requests, and we are aware of all the server setup requests, we just don't have the resources at the moment to hit every single one of them in a day. With the new systems we're putting in place this will change however. Those systems should be coming in place very soon.

They are. But this is only because they've come to us with a range of IP address's with servers allready pre-setup on them.

Alex and co, thanks for the amazing work you do, the sensible few of us do understand the effort you guys put in and the workload you're under. We just have to wait which is the price of doing business.

You did mention that you're tasked with helping server admins get their severs working, I know there is a entire bunch of us who have hosted ARMA servers before more then willing to assist.

Cheers

Sean
