Server hopping is cheating!!

Recommended Posts

Playing with a group last night. We have a base set up. Spend hours and hours playing and manage to store a couple longs. One guy dies, goes back to Electro and starts server hopping to find loot. When I tell him to just come get the long he says "I don't want anything I did't achieve myself". Talk about some crazy mad logics.

Hopping for loot isn't cheating.

Hopping for PvP reasons, is. (Reappearing behind someone.)

Yea in any case, server hopping is unacceptable. When I scout a town to make sure it's cleared, I don't want some dick cheese to appear out of nowhere and pop me in the head from behind. You can't tell me, when he is doing it for loot, that he won't shoot me.

If you ask me, there should be a sound on login with like a 20m radius.

I don't think the idea was that survivors should be teleporting between parallel universes to collect loot.

Think what Dallas just said covers it.....

But the honest players are a small minority in this mod, all you get is everybody is doing it so why cant we????? Thats a great mentality to have.

some kind of pre-load indicator for an incoming player within X meters of you is a fantastic idea as long as it doesn't go overboard

Hopping for loot isn't cheating.

I'd say it is. You're bypassing the restrictions of limited/shitty resources and spawns. The idea is that if you hit that barn and there's nothing worthwhile in there, you'll have to go find another barn. Why bother walking when you can just slide into another server where the same barn might have better spawns?

It's simply meta-gaming around ingame restrictions, and that's cheating.

afaik loot spawns are already removed in that manner

the only way they aren't is if another player is already in the area you loaded into

Exploits are a grey area. Is it all cheating? Yes. Does it matter since we are in Alpha? No.

Eventually this game will become one big persistent world where your character is bound to a big server. Why isn't it that way now? Because nobody wants to lose their progress when a server goes down or shuts down permanently.

Quit bitching about the exploits. We've got bigger fish to fry, and Rocket is well aware of what needs to happen to make this game less exploitable. We're in Alpha.

But yea you're right. It's cheating. It will be fixed, some day.

Of course it is cheating. No doubt about it.

Login / logout should be disabled in buildings. In towns, period.

i have had loot vanish or not spawn around me at the stary tents, zelenogorsk and berezino stores, and numerous deer stands

it may bug out sometimes, but the functionality is definitely there; i'm unsure of the exact distance from loot that this starts to apply, though. you can definitely run all the way out of the stary tents to the tree hill north of them, switch servers, and have loot spawn, but that's a fair distance away (200-300m-ish).

Server hopping for loot spawns is cheating/exploiting. It circumvents the need to move from area to area in order to find loot spawns, and drastically reduces the amount of risk you expose yourself to in order to find loot.

I don't think that is entirely correct. Loot/zombies only spawn if players are near the area, but if someone comes into the area and then leaves it doesnt despawn (at least not immediately, I have no information on how long things take to spawn/de spawn). So server hoppers can log into high traffic areas (NW Air, Cherno Firestation, ect) with reasonable certainty that loot will be there even if other players are not there at that moment.

This does not work the same in low traffic areas since they would have to wait for the area to populate if no one has been there in a while.

There should be a 5second sound/ a message sent to players within ~~ meters When a players logs onto the server, that sounds simple; the sound anyway.

I don't think its so much as evil cheating (like hax) as everyone can do it and it doesn't really hurt anyone (unless you're unlucky). However (like Ive joyfully done before) when you go to the NW airfield and sit in the barracks and server switch, it kinda defeats the object of the challenge of avoiding snipers whilst being there. I switched about 5 times in there and found the M136, satchel charges, M4SD etc. Only good thing is that downed helis cant be exploited by this.

Now I know how people have good loot...

Sometimes it is necessary.

I logged out in the firehall tower. When I decided to play again, I had to hop around to about 10 servers until I found one that would let me out (darned barb-wire). Good news is I had a nice M14 AIM rifle when all was said and done. It was my first time with the weapon. Seemed to kill quite well. 2 murders :)

Cheating is cheating. Is it as bad as someone hacking and nuking everyone in the server? No. But it is still detrimental to gameplay. Like you said' date=' now you know how people have such amazing gear, and they got it with little to no risk. This in fact does hurt every player who plays legitimately.

There are several perfectly legitimate reasons to jump from server to server, this is an example of one (even though barbwire has never stopped me from jumping over it, but your mileage may vary).

Barbed Wire = press v

You're welcome.

No need for accidentally looting the same firestation on 10 different servers.

Also: Logging out in such a hot spot is just ridiculously suicidal.

If you hop, loot won't spawn if you're standing next to it. So essentially, the best way to loot hop is to exit the area, server hop, then enter the area again. There's always risk in that. Another player could be behind you, and you'll need to sneak past zombies again. Any feeling for the general safety of the area you had is lost. It's not like you aren't working for the loot. The only problem is players appearing out of nowhere with no warning in a PVP environment... Which could be solved if there actually was a warning.

Most players know that you can access the roof of the firestation from inside the tower 2 flights up(corner by stairs use mouse-wheel) your on the ladder out side "Magic"...Then you can get off the roof via the ladder....... Cant see why anybody would log-out in 1 of the most targeted buildings by snipers?????

Working for your loot, your taking the piss. That is the problem because as you put it "Another player could be behind you" that being you, because your server-hopping. The honest survivor that "worked hard" to get into that location, then has a muppet like you hop in behind him is that part of the mod??? Because your just adding to the problem..

Server hopping for loot is extremely easy. Anyone can do it. Especially in Stary tents. Sit inside a tent, loot the place. Get back inside a random tent, hop to another server. Always risky, but the loot is rewarding.
