English direction markers?

Recommended Posts

Only babies use an online map. Either learn the map or get the Russian Learning book in game and teach yourself Russian.

People whine about there being nothing to do in this game. Explore! Don't use 3rd party things like DayZ DB or Skype, come on guys. You're missing out on so many amazing opportunities and adventures.

Meh... When my Lamborghini Diablo breaks down on the freeway I'm not expected to know how to fix it. I just use an app to find the nearest dealer.

When I'm ordering authentic Asian food I'm not expected to learn simplified Chinese. Dude on the other end of the line is my online app.

I didn't need to learn Russian in order to memorize the landscape.

I only suggest things in order to create the most authentic feeling possible you could have in DayZ.

You don't spawn with an iPhone or a laptop, so you really shouldn't be able to search things up if you really wanted to play the game legitimately

While you don't it's very unclear without any sort of story to drive the game (which I very honestly hope they add) why you'd be in the middle of nowhere! With nothing! I mean if you only ever spawned on the coast and the excuse was you'd washed up from a plane crash or ship wreck yeah, but spawning in the middle of the world with a flashlight and a battery? It's just a pet peeve I guess. Like fully loaded magazines laying around and no where near a working gun! It's the kind of logic I call "video game logic" that's counter productive to immersion because in a real life situation you'd never be "caught with your pants down" without an extremely good catalyst as to why. However it's pretty common place in a video game

when they finally rip off the H1Z1 graffiti system you can just put your own translation up

I wouldn't expect to see graffiti in DayZ TBH.

Why english direction markers? We only use half of the places name's anyway ( Elektro instead of Elektrozavodsk, Cherno instead of Chernogorsk etc ) and when you play a while, you get used to the cyrillic names, at least enough to figure out that элektpo could mean "Elektro" or ъaлota must be Balota.

no. cos game is in fictional Russian state.

As far as this post which I made briefly after beginning gameplay I agreed that it made since with the survival simulation part of the game.

As far as the base map goes, like many Total Conversion Mods, Dean Hall simply used the Arma 2 map had I played Arma 2 this would probably all be second nature already and I'd never have made this post. In which I later corrected myself because I had originally forgotten to say that I meant as a localization option.

Further more, please read previous posts before just making a statement I've already gotten use to the map now that I've had time to actually explore it with out getting killed 2 minutes after spawning.

As with any game that begins life a a Total Conversion Mod the map doesn't change much at it's base, I never played ARMA 2 and had I Would likely had never bothered with this post because I'd already be familiar with the landscape. But also in theory when BI picked it up or even when it was just Dean "Rocket" Hall working on it, the landscape is generic enough that this could literally take place anywhere in the world. Further expansion of the map to include an Arctic region and a desert region would further create a generic country state. Slight alteration of some of the architecture and we have an even more generic countryside that could be smack dab in the middle of everywhere. From what I've seen Rocket is a pretty good programmer but the base code often limits Modders to what can be re-written and replaced before causing a total meltdown of the program.

I also initially pondered if this game (after learning that this is just Chernerus +) would get a new map or location change now that it's a fully supported release? I thought hey for a total conversion I understand, for a Mil-sim I understand, that region has Been a semi-constant bed of conflict since the fall of the Soviet Union. But at first even after watching Frankie's videos I was skeptical about it as a local for a post apocalyptic survival game, granted in used to Fallout which has fairly large maps but populates them well. Having spent a considerable amount of time with the game now. I love it, I love the fact I've had to step out of my comfort zone on a role playing level an not only learn new mechanics but also partially learn a new alphabet. I do need to double check the ingame maps to see if they include the Cyrillic spelling as well I know they have the more western spellings for sure. But for now I look forward to each new patch as we press forward towards final release.
