degude 133 Posted July 8, 2014 Hi, There are many ideas for the usage of ropes http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/198043-uses-for-rope/?fromsearch=1But it's not possible to use the same rope for each of those purposes, so my idea was to give each rope two attributes; length, and thickness. The idea behind it is that you can't use the rope, which is used for climbing, for fishing. So when crafting an item, certain criteria of the rope need to be fulfilled, e.g. for a fishing rod a maximum thickness of 2mm and a minimum length of 1m could be required. Also maximum lengths could be possible, but then a rope should be cuttable to any length with a knife. For this idea to work, it probably needs a lot more ropes spawning. Rigor Mortis (DayZ) 141 Posted July 8, 2014 I guess the question should be: is the added complexity worth the added memory and development cost for a minor improvement in realism? I agree that they could do this to add realism, but what does it really add to gameplay? I would guess that trying to find the _right_ rope would be a pain in the butt unless they are going to spawn gobs of useless junk in every city -- which, by the way, I really hope they do. With the number of items spawning right now and the difficulty to find what you need, I would rather not have this implemented. If they do as I mentioned, I'd love to see it. It would be awesome to have to dig through all the junk in a house to try to find useful stuff. Chests full of sewing stuff, garages full of different ropes, rusted tools, etc.
benedictus 160 Posted July 8, 2014 Well adding one or two rope types wouldnt hurt, makes things a little bit more complex. Like fishingpole, unless you go for sharks or bigger, with a rope you wont catch anything.
Parazight 1599 Posted July 8, 2014 Seems unnecessary. One rope to rule them all is authentic enough. Too much realism is bad. Flashlights should probably use 9 volt batteries IRL anyway.
Rigor Mortis (DayZ) 141 Posted July 8, 2014 You know, now that I think about it, why can't you use a sewing kit and a stick to make a fishing pole?
Ganjamaster 8 Posted July 10, 2014 Would be nice if you can for instance use a climbing robe to decent from a higher floor in a building if you are being chased or need a sneaky get away. Can play more tactical aswelll with options like that

degude 133 Posted July 10, 2014 Well, the idea behind it was, that it's just not possible to use such a rope, to fish some fish... If they are going to implement rope climbing or something like this, I think one type of rope is just not "realistic" anymore. So there are two solutions, different types of ropes (like climbing rope, fishing rope, bows, etc.) or the add attributes to a rope and then see whether your rope fits the action you want to do
