i read the new about a month ago about dayz moving to a new engine

 

when cud it possibly be?

False. Dean made a video explaining everything. He's not renaming the current engine. There's a whole separate team working on coding the new engine.

You don't just make a claim that goes against every single other thing we've gotten on the situation without posting the evidence. Ever since the announcement was made we've heard that it was simply the new name they were giving to the current engine as it was being reworked. If there is actually evidence to the contrary then post it.

It's not being put together, people just like making shit up.  It's just them gutting the old engine, re-coding it and calling it something else.

I think you misunderstood. They're gutting things out of RV and porting in shiney new things. It's not a completely new engine.

It will take the current DayZ engine as a basis for sure. After everyone was crying about how stupid it was to move to a new engine Rocket and Hicks posted on Reddit to the effect of, "Of course we aren't just dropping all of the work we have done on the current engine."

 

I do think there is a new team working exclusively on the Enfusion engine, though.

This has got me so confused.....1st he says new engine.....then that its actually just a culmination of all the work they have already done (and were planning on), so needs a new name.....now its a whole new engine again. Man some continuity in statements would be nice lol

 

Its always been based on ToH, that's nothing new, so how exactly is it different from what they began working on so long ago? Is it not just an extension of the work they were already doing?

 

EG - in the vid....

 

Interviewer "is this starting over from scratch?"

Dean "No"

It is a new engine, just done piece by piece. They are using parts from real virtuality, but once its done it will be an engine on its own. Obviously like he mentioned current engine doesnt have dynamic lighting, so that part has to be done from scratch, im thinking colliders will have to be written from scratch as well. New engine was needed.

Correct me if im wrong, but when you take something and change it around and add more on top of it, its not "new", its improved, modified...

Calling it a new engine is not correct, its a reworked engine, based on RV.

 

Its like buying a car at a dealership, going home and doing a ton of custom modification to it.

Its not a "new" car, its a modified car.

But thats the thing, they arent replacing everything....

Remember Dean is not a very PR savy person, he has never been very good at explaining things to the public. Hes a programmer, he thinks in code.

He only calls it a new engine, to hype it and to please the masses imho.

 

If they where to export ALL current assests, buy a brand spanking new engine (frostbyte, cryengine, unreal, etc.) and then import everything into it, we can all it new.

But this is not new, its a heavily modified version of RV, so modified it will be given its own name, Enfusion.

 

They are doing exactly what they did with Take On Helicopters, just on a much bigger scale.

 

Dont get me wrong, its gonna be awsome to get the improvements they are talking about, but calling it a new engine is rubbish, its a modified engine.

This is just like Apple releasing an IOS update and calling it new. Its "just" an upgrade of the current tech.

Yes...

because they are not repeat not replacing the whole engine...

Most of it is coming in the render side of things if you look at the info its all out there..

Because the flashlight issue cant be fixed on the 1 they have now..but it can on the new 1..

Its still Arma 2.5 - The engine we're using now is "infusion" and has been since the standalone was released, the only difference is now its got a name and looks better on the patch notes.

No thats how you make a new version of an engine.

A new engine is created by sitting down, and writing every little bit from scratch, not just upgrading current code and adding more on top of it :)

 

If this is how you create a new engine, then BF4 would be running on a new engine, which isnt the case, its just a new version of the engine, an upgraded version.

You would say a stage coach and a car are the same, or say a car is an improved version of a stage coach or both are improved versions of the wheel.

That's ok and I respect your opinion.  :P
