People tend to think they are more clever than they really are. I also guess that, gamers tend to be socially inept (not a criticism, just a general observation) and do not always realize how suspicious they appear. Between the KOS and and the killing this game has a very strong social element, a lot can transpire in your voice and tone.

 

Then there is also the "why not take the chance? There isn't much to lose."

You can have "social elements" with people that you need, like with people in mmoprg when you need them to raid some dungeon with.

 

Having "social elements" with random players that you meet in DayZ is like having social elements with mosquitoes or cockroaches.

Nobody will take a threat half whispered with a hesitant and scared voice, that's what i mean by social skills, you have to sound confident and level headed, if not downright threatening. People will judge who they are against based on the impression your voice give them.

If you sound commanding and like you know exactly what you are doing, they are more likely to think they might lose the encounter or just do as you tell them.

 

The whole shouting and holding at gunpoint that police and the military does isn't just for show.

You will be pretty much freak'd out, and you won't trust anyone, you are going to survive trough that shit, and you are ready to everything to protect your niggas. indeed, been in a situation where i made a friendly encounter with a guy, and we decided to go together for a wander. I spot two guys running at us and say to my guy be careful players inbound. the kid i had just met was probably thinking that cos i was friendly our luck might be in and these were friendly too, i on the other hand have been playing since the mod so i know to get cover before interacting. He shouts in direct hey man friendly and i stash up armed with only an axe and my wits the two guys stop and one says yeh man friendly (im like yeh, heard that before in my head) they saunter over and although they have seen me i still keep a litle distance, the other kids all like talking to them, one guy who is unarmed gets closer then i see him pull a sawn off shotty from his bag right in front of the other kid, at this point i ready my axe and sprint for him and BANG my buddy takes one and instantly is dead, i axe the shooter but am then shot at multiple times by his friend, who missed a lot while i zig zag toward him, eventually he manages to hit me, needless to say you can never be to sure in dayz.

I'm sure if you listen really, really carefully at 5:37, you will hear the guy say that he has a gun in his backpack in which he can simply pull out at any second I'm not watching. Now this is just a stab in the dark here, but I don't think ANYBODY would lower their weapon for this guy. So next time, before you spray negativity all over your keyboard, pay attention to what is really going on.
